My ancestor was Samuel HAGAN born Oct. 1, 1794 in parish Kilroote, Co. Antrim,Ireland, died Apr. 8, 1859 in Dungannon, Ont. Can. He married Margaret MCDONALD born Apr. 4, 1801 in Ireland. Their 1st son James Henry was born Feb. 12, 1820 in Belfast. Their other children were all born in Carrickfergus, including Margaret b. 1822, Elizabeth b. 1824, Samuel b. 1828, Elizabeth Jane b. 1830, Jane b. 1832, Robert McDonald b. 1833 , Samuel b. 1840 and Mary (or Margaret) b. ? Samuel and Margaret emigrated with their surviving family about 1844 to Huron Co. Ontario. I have no other record of them in Ireland but wonder if there could be a connection with our two families. They were Church of England in Co. Antrim, but were Presbyterian after coming to Canada. James Hagan and some others of his family changed their name to HAGEN after emigrating, although Samuel Sr. did not. Some people feel that this was because they were originally Dutch, having gone to Ireland with William of Orange. There is no proof for this belief, that I know of. Hoping to hear from you if you think there might be a connection. Bye for now. Doreen Guerriero
