I have been in the background, trying to learn about the Ireland Roots list. I know absolutely nothing about Ireland, or its people, so I have lots to learn about. I hope I don't sound completely stupid, but how does one determine of what part of Ireland a name comes from? Did one family, and their children's children, of one name always stay in one spot?? My husband's maternal Grandfather and Grandmother were immigrants from Ireland in 1907, according to the 1910 USA census of Beaumont, Texas. The census also says they married that same year. Their names were Anton and Johanna Jorgenson. Anton was born ca. 1882 in Ireland, unknown place. Johanna, last name unknown, born ca 1890 in Ireland, unknown place. I can not find them on a ship's list at all. They had a daughter Edith Ruth Jorgenson born USA 1909--the mother Johanna died in 1910-13, and family told that Anton returned to his homeland after putting the child up for adoption. I have all the USA data that I can find, but I do not know how or where to go to try and find out about them. Hi Mamie & everyone, I can really relate to everything that you have said! I'm new to this list too. I've found as much info as I could in America & I've finally gotten to the folks who came from Ireland. I don't know for a fact what counties they came from. I have years. I know what family members have said but no documentation. so how do I find them? Is there a particular starting place anyone would recommend? thanks, Bernadette ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mamie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 3:33 PM Subject: [IRL~ROOTS] newbie to list-Jorgensen to Texas > I have been in the background, trying to learn about the Ireland Roots list. > I know absolutely nothing about Ireland, or its people, so I have lots to > learn about.
