    1. Re: [IRL~ROOTS] List for Ulster information
    2. Margery, I have just been researching the 5 ships that came from Northern Ireland in 1718. What I found was the following: 1. Often clan sites had information. For example, Clan Boyd had a large amount of information with names and places of that period. I then used those to find other materials in Ireland. 2. a Scotch Irish Pioneers in Ulster and America site gave me records for Ulster and in particular Londonderry. tI found this through the Clan Boyd site: http://clanboyd.info/outsideusa/ireland/history/sipioneers/ 3. Another site with place names and such was Newcomers in the Bay Colony http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Woods/8049/saga/bk6ch36.html 4. Another site gave me background material on Scotch Irish in Ulster and America http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/1968/scotirsh.htm as did the McMurphy Family Origins homepage http://www.fidnet.com/~mcmurfy1/ 5. BBC - History - Has more information and names as well as a direction(s) to go in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/timelines/ni/siege_derry.shtml 6 US-IMMIGRANTS-PRE-1800-L Scot-Irish from Ulster to Boston http://achiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/US-IMMIGRANTS-PRE-1800/2001-11/1006284780 7. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~merle/Boston/ Information about Scot-Irish after landing in Boston. The ~merle came from a broader base as follows: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~merle/History/index.htm 8. Bann Valley genealogical date http://www.4qd.org/virtual/www.4qd.org/bann/books/Kilrea02.html was a site I used to find a relative. 9.THE SYMINTON FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY NEWSLETTER also had bits and pieces of material appropriate to my person Ulster research. http://www.geocities.com/symingtonfhs/Iss7m.html describes the conditions of one of the five ships that put in and wintered at Casco Bay, Portland, Maine. 10. The Nesmith Library - Naesmyth.com is in New Hampshire, place where many Scot-Irish orginally settled. For a variety of reasons, these people emigrated from there south to Pennsylvania and below. This page gave me a clear understanding of the Scot-Irish at the beginning and a possible solution to the origins of Thomas Crook, my ancestor. http://www.naesmyth.com/nesmith_library.htm I found all of this when I set out to determine the passenger lists of the 1718, 5 ships who petitioned Gov. Shute of Massachusetts. I have found that researching the history of my ancestor often leads to real records because I find places and more known names that have information on site. It also helps to understand the background or the history of the immigration when evaluating material. I hope this helps you in some way. Suzanne Welles
