Dear Listers, I'm new to this list. I'm in USA, state of California. I have a photograph of the (new replacement) headstone for a James McNally, born abt. 1839 somewhere in Ireland. I found a military listing on ancestry.com that seems to be this James McNally. The military roster shows that James stated that both of his parents were born in Ireland, but counties not listed. My husband and I discovered his grave completely by accident while on a trip this past week to my mother's in USA, New Mexico. While driving a very long scenic route in the New Mexico Gila mountains, we came across a small roadside sign that only said, "Cemetery". I wanted to stop and investigate this SO remote cemetery hidden in the mountains of the southwest US. We discovered that this 1800s cemetery is still being used as late as 2003-2004. This James McNally's tombstone states that he won the Medal of Honor. He served during the Civil War and Indian Wars of the US. His last military rank was Sergeant. He was in the 3rd and 8th Calvary. His marker also notes that James 'Had no identified survivors.' James died November 26, 1904 in Kingston, New Mexico, USA. If anyone knows that this James McNally is theirs, please write me. I"ll email the photos of his tombstone and a history of sorts as where he is exactly buried in this remote mountain cemetery. Jacquie Baral IRELAND-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com MCNALLY-L@rootsweb.com

I've been researching the LEACH surname assuming that my grandparents were correct in saying they were told their ancestors were from Ireland. My paternal ancestors were from Scotland and settled in Ohio in 1722 so the LEACH/Ireland connection makes some sense. However, I don't see anyone else on the Irish mailing list searching for the LEACH surname. Is anyone else on this list searching LEACH background from Ireland? Thanks!
Hi Listers, Re my message of yesterday. it would help if I gave a contact, wouldn't it!!!! c_nicky@optusnet.com.au There is a _ between c and n. it gets hidden with the underlining. Thanks for any help. Nicky
Dear listers, I have come to ground with my research on this branch of my family. Is anyone else researching them? Thomas John Hill born Liverpool England c1827, don't know when he arrived in Australia. He married Mary Jane Brown in Tenterfield in 1855. She arrived with her parents and siblings in 1853 ex Armagh, Nth Ireland.. Thomas died 1909 and Mary Jane in 1903. Both are buried in Emmaville cemetery, NSW. I have been told there is no headstone for either. Their children were : William (my line for whom I have not been able to find a birth record, probably born prior to the marriage), Elizabeth, Susanna, Mary Jane, Sarah 1, Sarah 2, Thomas , Joseph, Jane and Robert. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Nicky
Havlin (or similar spelling). The furthest back I have right now are John Havlin and Ann ? born around 1780, and Roger Havlin and Cecilia ?, born around 1780 in Ireland. If anyone connects to these, please let me know. John and Ann Havlin's son, John, married the daughter, Ann Havlin, of Roger and Cecilia Havlin. Thanks for any help...Linda Haviland avonlindah@hotmail.com

Good evening to everyone on the list, In the Connaught Journal for Monday, 3 November 1823 (published on the Ireland Old News website, www.irelandoldnews.com <http://www.irelandoldnews.com/> ), the following news item appeared: "Marriages.. At Limerick, M. Sellers, of Trisbane, Co. Galway, Esq. to Lucinda, second daughter of the late Arnold Eggers, of said City, Esq.." My interest in this marriage lies in the Eggers side of the union - my 3 x great grandfather, Paul Cudmore Eggers, was Lucinda's brother, and the name Lucinda or Lucy has been used in every generation of my family for the last 200 years. Did this couple remain in Limerick, or did they move elsewhere, or even emigrate ? Is there anybody out there researching this Sellers family, of Trisbane, Co. Galway, or the descendants of M Sellers and Lucinda Eggers ? If so, I would be very pleased to hear from you. Thanking you in advance for your interest, and please excuse my cross-posting of this query to several lists. Regards Nick Batley Sydney, Australia

In the introduction to her book THE FASSETT GENEALOGY by Katherine FASSETT SCHUSTER she write: "The immigrant ancestor of the Fassett Family was Patrick, who according to tradition, was descended from a family named Macpherson, refugees from Scotland, who fled to Ireland to escape religious persecution. To conceal their identity, they assumed the name Faset, sometimes spelled Fawcett and Fossett. Patrick came to this county with his wife Sarah, from Rock Fassett Castle in Ireland and settled in Lexington, Mass." Patrick died 7 Nov 1713 at the age of 85. Does anyone have any idea where or what "Rock Fassett Castle" was? Dorothy (FASSETT) PETRY

Michael, While you are in Ireland look for McCarron. That is a name that I am researching. Marge
Get on line and find out as much as you can about where in Ireland they came from, and any other information you can obtain from the US census, family papers, etc. That way, you can focus your search in Ireland to a certain area and be more successful. I was able to find the house my grandfather lived in until he was 18 and meet a second cousin while there, but I had a great deal of information before going to Ireland, and a lot of help from Ireland natives while there. I also found his birth registration in church records held by a church minister, and that appointment was made ahead of schedule. Good luck! It is a beautiful country. ----- Original Message ----- From: <mmessinger@Macalester.edu> To: <IRELAND-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 02, 2005 2:02 AM Subject: [Irish-Roots] Resources in Ireland > Hi listers, > I just found out that some of my ancestors came from Ireland, I am going > to be there this fall.
