    1. CAREY-WESTMEATH
    2. I am researching Carey, Keogan & Doyle in County Westmeath. My Gr. Grandfather, William was born in 1841 to James Carey and Catherine Hinch (Townland, unknown). My Gr. Grandmother Mary was born in 1848 to John Keogan and Mary Doyle, possibly in Killucan. They were married in the Church of the Assumption, in Delvin Parish in 1865 (confirmed by the Parish Priest). My problem is, there was no record of either one of them being baptized there, nor in the adjoining parishes of Killucan or Mullingar. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I might find their birthplaces, I would certainly welcome them. Thank you, Mike

    3. Thanks to your info, Cara, but add to the SLOWEY equivalents Sloy and - believe it or not - Molloy (from Mac Sluaghadhaigh). My John S. is not likely to have been represented by any of these Slowey householders since he was no more than 19 in the years 1858 to 1869 when the GV was done in Monaghan. 3. Searching for JOHN SLOWEY/SLOY/SLOEY/SLOWE o JOHN SLOWEY/SLOY/SLOEY/SLOWE was born in 1841, probably in Ireland. The town and county is unknown. o He married ELIZABETH DAVIDSON (DAVIS?) in about 1863. The location is unknown. o Their first two children, John (b. 1865), and Elizabeth (b. 17 Feb 1866), were born in Glasgow, Scotland. o The family emigrated to North America in about 1869. John is found at several addresses in Allegheny City and Pittsburgh between 1870 and 1876. o Three more children were born in Allegheny City, Eleanor (1871), Kate (27 Oct 1872), and Mary Josephine, my grandmother, (5 Feb 1876). o The family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1876 where John Slowey farmed and perhaps worked for the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railroad. The family is shown in Bogy Township of Jefferson County, Arkansas in the 1880 census. o John Slowey died between 1880 and 1886.

    3. You have just transcribed a ton of records into a spreadsheet and you have the First and Surname in the same column i.e. (A1). Now you would like to separate them into separate columns i.e. (A1=First Name and B1= Surname) so that they are separated into separate columns. Well I think I may have just the solution for you to do this in seconds. Open your spreadsheet with the Data (Records) that you have copied and create two extra columns to the RIGHT of the column with the data (names) you have entered. Place your curser on the column next to the Names column (not in the heading row). Go to Insert and click on Columns (do this twice to get your two extra columns). Now place your curser in first empty Column immediately to the right of the column (not in the Headers) with your Names and in the Formula bar above enter the following formula: =RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-FIND(" ",A1,1)) This will separate all the Surnames into this column. Now move to the next empty column and enter the following formula in the Formula bar: =LEFT(A1,FIND(" ",A1,1)) This will put all the first names in this column. Now put your curser over the first entry (surname) of your new column and move your mouse until you get a + appear now right click and hold and drag down to the last entry in your document and hey presto all surnames are copied into that column. Do the same in the next column and hey presto again, its done. Easy peasy! PS don't forget to release your finger on your mouse when you get to the end of the list of entries. 3. Hi, Cara Thanks for the information on the BARNETTs and McMURRYs. You've answered a couple of big questions: whether the name BARNETT is Irish or English, and whether the name McMURRY is Irish, Scottish , or both. BARNETT is English, and McMURRY is either Irish or Scottish, depending on which name it was derived from. Again, thanks. 3. The centre of County Tipperary is known as 'the Golden Vale', a fertile stretch of land in the basin of the River Suir, which crosses the county from north to south. Tipperary is bound by mountains to the south and west with a border on Lough Derg in the north thus offering a superb range of outdoor activities for visitors and locals alike. I will have to leave the exact location to the map experts but I am also imagining that this is what you mean CARA ----- Original Message ----- From: <IreNamConnection@aol.com> To: <IRELAND-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 15, 2005 4:21 AM Subject: [Irish-Roots] Golden Tipperary? > Could someone provide the complete location of "Golden Tipperary" Thank > you. > > > ==== IRELAND-ROOTS Mailing List ==== > Plant your Irish roots here! > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection.
