    1. [IRL~ROOTS] Poor law union
    2. I know this probably sounds lame, but I have no idea what a POOR LAW UNION is and was wondering if sks would tell me. It sounds like a marriage without a priest, but I don't want to take that for granted, so if sks would tell me perhaps I wouldn't feel so stupid when I see it next time.

    3. Hi Ann I haven't had any luck in this area. The only information I have on mine James Behan born 1838 to Michael and Marguerite Behan, Ireland. To find out any information you need to know what county. What read I that you have to write to the parish or church. Only a few are online or have Email addresses. Also a number of records were destroyed. 1. [IRL~ROOTS] John NEWMAN
    2. Hi everyone, I am new to this list and I hope some kind person will be able tohelp me. I am looking for the birth place of my g.g.grandfather JOHN NEWMAN. circa 1823. My first knowledge of him was from his daughter's birth certificate in South Wales in 1860 where her surname was recorded as NEWNA.- father John Newna. On his daughter's marriage certificate, her maiden name was recorded as Noonan, but on all her own children's birth certificates, she is recorded as being formerly NEWMAN, The family appear on the 1881 census in South Wales as NEWMAN, with John as head, born Ireland. I have done an LDS search, found a couple within the date, born Skull, Cork around 2823. If anyone has any further information or advice they can give me, it would be very much appreciated. Can you also please give me the address of your records office for Ireland if I need to ask them to search? Thanks again Ann (Bristol UK)

Raised their > family in Tredegar/Rhymney area of Wales before settling in NEPA (Scranton > area). > > Walton J. Sullivan at [email protected] Hello Walton, I have the following in my family tree - the dates don't match but there could be some connection. My great grandfather THOMAS O'BRIEN was, according to family heasay, born in Ireland about 1832 and married MARY ?????. Both died in London (I have the Death Certificates), THOMAS in 1902 and MARY in 1895. The family moved to England in the mid 1880s (too late for the UK 1881 census) and settled in London. Their children were:- My grandfather was THOMAS O'BRIEN who is believed to have been born about 1861 in Ireland. Died 1913 in London. JAMES O'BRIEN born about 1870 probably in Ireland, died 1911 in London. DAVID or DANIEL O'BRIEN born about 1865 probably in Ireland, appears in UK 1891 census as D. O'BRIEN. Nothing else known. MICHAEL O'BRIEN nothing known FRANCIS DOMINIC O'BRIEN nothing known ELLEN O'BRIEN nothing known. (I wonder - was she named after your Ellen?) THOMAS O'BRIEN b1861 was, in his spare time, one half of a Music Hall double act called WADE & WALLER (obviously a pun on "wade and wallow") which appeared in the late 1800s and early 1900s at the ALHAMBRA, LEICESTER SQUARE, LONDON, the HOLBORN EMPIRE, LONDON and the NEW OXFORD THEATRE, LONDON. They ended their theatrical career in about 1907 with a final appearance at the BEDFORD, CAMDEN TOWN, LONDON which was seen by my late Aunt ELLEN (nee O'BRIEN - not the same one as above but it shows the name runs in the family). THOMAS O'BRIEN was WALLER and THOMAS CUMMINGS was WADE. >From his memorial card THOMAS CUMMINGS died on 25th October 1908 aged 47 years and was interred at Lambeth Cemetery, Tooting, London. I know nothing else about him. THOMAS O'BRIEN also did a single act (possibly only after the death of THOMAS CUMMINGS) as TOM MAYTHORN(E). Family hearsay has it that at least one of the acts, WADE & WALLER or TOM MAYTHORN(E), was Irish Clog Dancing! It couldn't get much worse could it?! (Riverdance eat your heart out!). My very tentative deductions are:- My THOMAS CUMMINGS was from Ireland hence the Irish Clog Dancing act. My O'BRIENs and CUMMINGS knew each other in Ireland or their parents knew each other in Ireland. Coincidences do happen but given ELLEN O'BRIEN and CUMMINGS could it just perhaps be that when the O'BRIENS and CUMMINGS' decided to leave Ireland, perhaps around about the same time, one lot went to Wales and the other lot ended up in London? Bill (Brora, Sutherland, Scotland)

    3. Hi there I have Cummins connections in Ireland too. I thought I'd just send some information and see if any of it gells with your connections. My grandfather Edward CUMMINS was born in Nott, South Dublin in May 1908. He married Mary McBride in 1931 in Glasgow, Scotland. Edward's parents were Thomas CUMMINS (b: Dec 1864, Coollatin & Clonegal, Ireland, m: April 1894, d: 1944) and Margaret McDONAGH (b: 1869, Keadue, Ireland, d: 1942 Townhead Glasgow). Thomas' parents were John CUMMINS and Mary SMITH who I have no information on apart from their names on various certificates for Thomas. I haven't been able to find any more information about either of them. If they have some connection to your research I'd love to know.
