Hi, In a 1607 Irish Amagh historical document, there is the phrase: "sept Muntercassely [ O Cassily O Caisile]". I am guessing that "O Caisile" is the Irish language version of my name and that "O Cassily" is the anglicized version of my name(?) But what does "Muntercassely" mean???? ("Cassely" is another variant of my name.) It's the Munter I cannot figure out. Does anyone know what the phrase "Muntercassely" means????? Thank you very much in advance! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: THOMAS and CATHERINE COOK MURRAY and daughter MARY JANE MURRAY Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 20:22:27 -0600 From: "Theresa Assande" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] I have been searching for information on my great great grandfather THOMAS MURRAY and his wife CATHERINE COOK MURRAY for at least five years and have yet to find a birthplace in Ireland or a date of birth for either one. THOMAS MURRAY owned a glass factory in Ireland. So therefore, he must have lived in a coastal location since sand was necessary for its production. At one point, I thought that they came from Galway, but now I am not so sure. Since, the only child I know of, Mary Jane Murray was born in August of 1861, I am guessing they were born between + or - 1825 to 1845. MARY JANE MURRAY born August 1861, was ready to be married, her banns were announced and her wedding dress made, when she eloped with another man (PATRICK GRAHAM) in 1877 or 1878. As a result, MARY'S family disowned her because they felt "she married beneath her station". MARY MURRAY GRAHAM and her husband PATRICK GRAHAM had 14 children. Three were born in Ireland. JOHN GRAHAM born February 1879, MARY JANE born about + or - 1880 and died at age 2 in Ireland and CELIA GRAHAM born any where between 1878 and 1890. The rest of the children were born in N.Y.C., U.S.A. I am hoping someone can give me help or suggestions. Any help would be gratefully accepted! Thank You, Theresa
Hi Theresa, I'm sure you probably already know this; however, there is a crystal factory in Galway, and it is not uncommon for similar businesses to be in the same area - just a suggestion, but have you thought about sending an e-mail to Galway Crystal and asking about early businesses and history?? This is their website: http://www.galwaycrystal.ie/flash.htm - if you can't access using that, just type "galway crystal" into your browser. They had a great tour there and lots of history. Their e-mail is: [email protected] Regards, Robin ----- Original Message ----- From: Dick Mc To: [email protected] Sent: May 3, 2003 8:44 PM Subject: [IRL~ROOTS] [Fwd: THOMAS and CATHERINE COOK MURRAY and daughter MARY JANE MURRAY] -------- Original Message -------- Subject: THOMAS and CATHERINE COOK MURRAY and daughter MARY JANE MURRAY Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 20:22:27 -0600 From: "Theresa Assande" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] I have been searching for information on my great great grandfather THOMAS MURRAY and his wife CATHERINE COOK MURRAY for at least five years and have yet to find a birthplace in Ireland or a date of birth for either one. Trying to find out if Samuel Edmondson, born 1659 in Cork, Ireland had a son named Robert Edmondson born about 1686 in same area who migrated to Augusta Co, Virginia and died in 1747 with the name of Robert Edmisten/ Thank you, June Robinson [email protected]
Think I need some professional help. After a couple of years I am no closer to finding the birthplace of my ancestors. The facts are. William Elliott was born on the 21st June 1825 and his wife Jane Wear/Weir on the 16th October 1827. (Information from family bible). In 1851 they told the census man in Old Monklands Scotland that they were born in Ireland. They listed their religion as Presbyterian and his trade as Collier Cannot find anylistings in Ireland or Scotland of their births and don't know whereelse to look. Any help greatly appreciated and any professional researchers out there that would like to try can contact me off-group. Regards.. John Elliott Melbourne Vic Australia [email protected]

My maiden name was Norris. My g.great grandfather was called SAMUEL NORRIS born in Belfast in 1820, He married ELIZABETH PENNINGTON and they had a son called SAMUEL born 1849 in Belfast in the parish of St Anne's. In 1855 he started to have a family in Liverpool, in 1873 my grandfather was born, he was Frederick Norris, my dad was George Norris. In our recent tree we have, Harry, George Edward, Samuel, Jane , Betty, Laura. Elizabeth. It has taken me over 20 years to find him in Ireland and now I am stuck again, I can't find anything more about him. My grandmother, Elizabeth Brown used to sew sashes for the Orangemen in Liverpool. Samuel senior used to go off to the United States and it was rumoured that he had an extended family out there. Frederick, my grandfather, also used to go to the states, I have a record of him going to UTICA for work. If you can help me at all I would really appreciate it, I'm trying at the moment to locate a film that has the record of the ch! ristening in St Anne's, Belfast. The person that gave me that information is now offering further information for a price and is not willing to divulge the film number to me. However, I am sure that some day I will come across it, hopefully before the next twenty years. I am keeping my fingers crossed that perhaps you may be able to help with my Irish links, I look forward to hearing from you, Cheers, Christine

Hello from a wet Brisbane, I've just joined the list and thought I'd post my brickwall. I'm looking for my g.g.grandmother, Sarah NEWELL. She was born in Newbliss, Monaghan in 1822 and by February 1851 was in Adelaide, South Australia marrying my g.g.grandfather Robert Salkeld CARRUTHERS. Her second son was John Salkeld CARRUTHERS born in 1853 in Maitland NSW. He married Sarah Jane WADE in Dungog, NSW in January 1882. Sarah J's mother was Sarah Ann NEWELL from County Cavan who born in 1829. I think the two Sarahs were cousins but can't find any links other than coincidence. Can anyone on list help fill the gaps? Phillip Carruthers Brisbane, Queensland, AUSTRALIA

My Grandfather, Thomas Scally was born on 10/20/ 1893 in Carrowbehy, which is in the county of Roscommon, in the Barony of FrenchPark, the Parish of Tibohine, the PLU Castlereagh and the Province on Connaught. From Thomas's birth certificate, I know his parents were William and Elenor Boyne. Birth was recorded in the District of Ballaghadeaaen, the registrar's District of Caskleea, in the county of Mayo and Roscommon. I am sure these spellings are incorrect. I also have a copy of the baptismal certificate, for the Diocese of Elphin, in the Parish of Longhglynn. The godparents were Hubert and Catherine Kane. I know from the 1901 census, that William was a farmer, and there were now four children. Thomas, Thady, Anne and Michael. From my grandfather Thomas, Elenor died young and William remarried. There were three more sons from the second wife. All four of the children from Elenor came to American in the 1920's and never went back to visit. The three sons from the second marriage did not marry and stayed in Ireland. This is all the information I have of my relatives in Ireland. I am coming to visit in late summer year and would like to visit in that area and find out more about our Ireland family, but I really have no idea where to go and even where to stay.
