It was suggested by two kind soles that I must direct my search to the Irish chat room............well the Irish sights listed are that many I don't know where to go. I'm looking for the birth of James Henry SLOAN/SLONE born about 1845 to Patrick SLOAN/SLONE. They immigrated to Cumberland before 1851 as I've a possible for James on the 1851 Census. Hi, I am looking for information on John Coulter born in Killileagh in about 1845. His father's name was John Coulter and his mother's Jane Moore (I think). I also believe he had a brother David Stewart Kerr Coulter born in 1853. I am looking for any information on the family. John ended up in Australia, but I am not sure how or when he got here. However, he married in Victoria in 1873 and had a large family. Hope someone can help. Thanks Lynda
My gg grandmother, Catherine Byrne was born in Co Kildare c1820 and at the age of 19 was convicted of stealing bedclothes. She was tried on 3 June 1839 (any records of trials?) jailed in Dublin between June and August (records of incarceration?) and departed Dublin for Botany Bay on 18 Aug 1839 aboard the Minerva 2. I have been unable to find her roots in Co Kildare. Can any bright spark shed some light and advice please? Cheers janine Hinton South Australia

I have just found my first Irish ancestor and not sure how to proceed, and wonder if anyone has any ideas please. Mary TURLEY married John STANYARD in St Peters, Wolverhampton UK, on 21.06.1836. Census records say she came from Ireland. I do not know the names of her parents or when and where she arrived in mainland Britain. I think she would have been born about 1818. Mary had a son called Thomas born 8 June 1846 in the UK, where the address on his birth certificate is given as Brook St, Bilston [Staffordshire] If the census returns are incorrect, then on IGI I have found : bapt. 16.06.1816 at St Peters, Wton, da. of Job & Margaret TURLEY or, bapt. 14.01.1816, Dudley Worcs, da. of Zephania & Mary TURLEY with thanks best wishes Penelope Carter

My Grandfather James O'Toole (later renamed McCabe) was born in Lurgan workhouse on the 2-Mar-1901. I believe from an abbreviated birth certificate that his mother was Eliza O'Toole. I know he moved to the Govan area of Glasgow when he was quite young. The problem I have is in this house in Govan he lived with an Alice McCabe (nee O'Toole) and Thomas McCabe, who both are listed as his parents on his wedding certificate, so,Was this an error or did Eliza die during childbirth, or did Eliza have the child But her sister (?) bring him up? Was Alice an only child? (Her parent's names were William O'Toole and Rebecca O'Toole (nee McDonald) Or were Eliza and Alice around at the same time?? Could you please point me in the right direction on how to solve this puzzle? Thanks in advance. Regards Bruce McLachlan Dumfries Scotland mcbrucie@gmail.com

Good day Ireland List! We have at last found some Irish ancestors! Could someone kindly find out if there is a marriage in Ireland between a PHILIP EDMUND KELLAND or PHILIP EDMUND FRANCIS KELLAND and a CHRISTINA MARY ANN DOHERTY, in the early 1900's. Or, for that matter, any marriage with a KELLAND, with a spouse whose first name is DORRIS (possible surname DOHERTY but not sure at all). She would be from Ferryhill, County Durham and born around 1922. Sorry to sound so vague, but we're chasing a father or grandfather who now seems to have a few more wives than expected! Doris was recorded as the spouse of PEF Kelland in 1950 when she came over to his native South Africa, after he'd been in the Royal Navy for about 20 years. 'Tis all getting rather tangled! But thank you for your help! On the other side of the family I have an ANNIE JANE FERGUSON born Dublin, Ireland about September 1867 (who married a WILLIAM CHARLES COBBETT HOLESGROVE on 7th May 1887 at Grahamstown Presbyterian Church South Africa - for anyone whose interested). I'm told she emigrated to South Africa around 1879 presumably with her family who were ??? Here's hoping that somone may be able to help! Thank you Rose Kelland South Africa
Hi Listers, I wonder, can anyone help me locate a George GERGISON? He was born in Londonderry in either 1806 or 1809. Served in Her Majesties 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment, migrated to Tasmania in 1851, and died in Hobart in 1889. Wife was Mary MURPHY, and they had several children, including: GERGISON, Catherine B 21 Feb 1858 GERGISON, George D 1877 TAS GERGISON, Margaret Eleanor M 1870 TAS Sp: Henry COULSON GERGISON, Susan M 1873 TAS Sp: Michael DALUCE I am interested in this man as the possible son of Jorgen JORGENSEN, "King of Iceland". Name of his first wife/girlfriend not currently known ... he later married Norah COBBET (CORBETT) in Tasmania. (Norah was also Irish, and had an illegitimate daughter, Mary MacDonald). There were no children of the JORGENSON/COBBET marriage. Greetings from Oz, Lesley (Melbourne, Australia ... incurable JJ research addict)
Hi, listers. I'm new, so I don't know how active you all are, but I'm looking for someone in Ireland that will do some research for me. Any genealogists out there? Diana in New Jersey.
Hi Charles, your Miller/Millar family came over to Ireland during the Plantation of Ulster, like my Gebbie family who came from Ayrshire (yours might have come from another area). I have information on MILLER/MILLAR families you might like for your data base (or anyone else starting to research their Miller/Millar ancestors), just email me on b.gebbie@btinternet.com. and I will give you the info.
