    1. Re: [ROLL CALL] Murphy - County Cork
    2. IAN DONALDSON
    3. G'day from Australia My ggrandmother, Maria Murphy, was born in Queenstown in 1833, and sailed for Australia in 1853 along with her sister Margaret. Alice followed later and they all married here and went on to have many children! Her parents were; Patrick Murphy & Catherine McCarthy. According to Slaters National Commercial Directory of Ireland (1846), Patrick was shown as a tailor residing at 8 Harbour Row Queenstown. However on one of his daughters death certificate his occupation was shown as an hotel keeper. Her death was in 1932. Maybe there was more money in beer than suits! The daughters were; Maria Murphy born 1833 Margaret Ann Murphy born 1835 Alice Mary born 1842 I have only been able to find these three children bit I feel that there may be others somewhere. We all know that the Irish had big families! There is a 7 year gap between Margaret & Alice so who knows. Being that this family was Roman Catholic, what records would be available to research? If there were some available does anyone have any suggestions for a researcher that I could use? Regards Ian Donaldson
