EARL;EARLS Thomas Rufus,bn c1845/48 Arklow, parents unknown. Ellen,Mattie, Heatley, William and Henry EARL/S are all family names according to a letter written from Arklow 1909. All farming people living variously, Arklow, Rathdrum,Red Cross and Oughill. Thomas Rufus left from Gravesend in 1874 on the 'Peeress" arriving in Lyttelton NZ where he married Cassandra Basher in Christchurch in 1876. They reared a family of 8 children.
