Hugh HARPER, Church of Ireland, b. abt 1830, Clonarl married Rosanna "Rose Anna" BOYLE m. abt 1867 Catholic. Hugh is said to have converted to marry his Catholic sweetheart. Children: Hugh (1868) James Francis (1871-1932) Castlefin John (1875-1950) Castlefin Ann "Annie" (~1868-~1920) Married Barney DEVLIN (b. Co. Derry) Kathleen (~1868) m. Daniel KELLY Mary Jane (~1868-1901) Carnadore Matthew Joseph (1879-1952) Carnadore m. Bridget McGIRR For a variety of reasons, I believe this family connects to my GG Grandparents John HARPER-Martha IRWINE family (Ch. of Ireland) Both John and Martha died in tiny Carnadore. My family's farm was then sold to the above family or their descendants. My ggg grandparents were Edward "Tom" HARPER and Elizabeth THOMPSON To be honest, I do not know where to start making this connection. I've not done much Irish research and not any Catholic research. Can some kind folks give me a little push? I have spoken with local Harpers, but their family history knowledge faded after great grandparents. Cheers, Diane and welcome to Irish genealogy, especially the Catholic kind. I would recommend two websites: www.cyndislist.com for Ireland/No.Ireland, and also www.irishgenealogy.ie/csi/csi_main.cfm#Counties for starters. Good luck and enjoy Donegal. We loved it up there!
