    1. CLOHERTY
    2. Hello Christopher CLOHERTY b. ca 1846 in Ireland. Died Nov. 1913 in Phila., PA Parents: unknown Siblings: may have had a brother, John and a sister Ellen or perhaps they were a nephew and niece as they were sponsors at Baptism for several children of Christopher and his wife, Mary (Cosgrove) Cloherty. Married: Mary Cosgrove b. ca 1850 in Ireland - died 1924 in Phila., PA Parents: Stephen and Mary (Cottingham) Cosgrove born in Ireland known siblings: John and Thomas Unknown: year of emigration and marriage of Christopher and Mary Christopher and Mary were sponsors for the daughter of John and Margaret (Mullany) Cloherty's daughter. Christopher and John lived in the same parish in Chester at the same time, therefore, I feel that they were related since the name is so rare. Christopher and Mary had 13 children: Mary (ca 1871-1903), Ellen (1872-1929), Patrick (1873-1905), Margaret (ca. 1877-1947), Katherine (1880-1947), Elizabeth (1881-mid 1940's), Ann (ca. 1874-1942), John (1885-1940), Regina (1887-1955), Joseph (1889-?), Thomas (1892-1961). I do not know the names of the other two children. The US census of 1910 states that they had 13 children, only eight had survived by 1910. Six of Christopher and Mary's children are buried in a plot with them in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Delaware Co., PA Christopher was listed as "Festo" Cloherty and also "Festus" Cloherty on three of his children's baptisimal certificates. Residence - 1872 - living in Wilmington, Delaware where their 2nd child was born 1873 - living in Chester, Delaware County, PA in Immaculate Heart of Mary R. C. parish 1880 - living In Phila., PA (US 1880 census) - Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul parish According to Griffiths Valuation of 1848-1864 there were only 38 CLOHERTY families in Ireland: 37 in County Galway and 1 in County Limerick. Griffiths Valuation was taken in County Galway in 1855 & I found the following names in the Civil parish of Omey in County Galway: CLOHERTY, Cosgrave (could be Cosgrove), Cottingham, Suffield (could be Schofield) and Tierney. All of these names are connected in some way to Christopher and Mary. Common 1st names in the CLOHERTY family: Mary, Margaret, John, Joseph, Thomas, James I would like to find the following information about Christopher: Name of the Roman Catholic parish where he was born how to obtain his baptisimal certificate parents names siblings names date of emigration date and place of his marriage would "Festo" or "Festus" be a nickname for Christopher ? CLOHERTY name is also rare in the US Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated RESEARCHING: CLOHERTY, Cosgrove, Cottingham, Schofield, Tierney Marguerite
