    3. This is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but it's worth a try. Laurence RYAN, born Ireland (not confirmed) Mary MCCLOUD or MCLEOD, born Ireland, county unknown. I'm assuming that they married, more probable in the US, but possibly Ireland, if both were in fact born there. My guess is that they married in the 1850's. My great grandmother, Ellen RYAN, (possibly Mary Ellen) was born to them in 1860, somewhere in Ohio. I suspect that "Ellen" might have been her middle name because her mothers name was Mary, and Ellen's firstborn was named Mary Ellen. Ellen's middle initial shows as "M" on of the census records I have. They lived in Illinois at some point, where I believe Ellen spent her childhood. Ellen, aka Nellie, shows up on the 1880 census in Cincinatti, Ohio. I have her marriage certificate from St. Xavier's Church dated November 1880. She married William MARTIN, an immigrant from England, who at the time of the marriage was working at Hunt's Hotel in Cincinnati. (1880 census) Sometime before October 1881, they moved to New York City, where their first child was born. I've got the trail covered from 1880 on for Ellen, William and their children, but have not been able to get back prior to that with any kind of paper trail. William MARTIN is a total mystery. His parents are named as William and Mary MARTIN, both born in England. I tried several birth records for the timeframe of William's birth, to no avail. The family says he was from Liverpool, but I haven't been able to find anything on him. It's been a struggle working with such common names, but I'm trying. Any help or stabs in the dark would be appreciated. Lori McBride-Nichols

    3. HI Lori, On the marriage certificate does it mention William's age ? That would help in looking back through the census.
