Pat, A PPS number is the Irish equivalent of a Social Security number; it identifies a person for social and government services. Older certificates will not have any PPS number, so if you're looking for an old certificate, they shouldn't charge extra for something that did not exist at the time of the person's death. -----Original Message----- From: nymets11@pacbell.net To: ireland-roll-calls@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 11 Feb 2007 5:24 PM Subject: Re: [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] Question on on Irish certificate form about PPS number > > I am filling out a application for Death Certificate for the Civil > Registration office in Ireland. It has a line PPS number. Does anyone know what is? I have never seen a death cert from Ireland, only birth certs and in the left hand column there is a number. Also on the top left corner there is a RGB number. Maybe you can get them in the index, if you are using one, otherwise, I'd just put in 'unknown'. Without the number, they may charge you extra for a search, however.
