I am trying to gather information on John and Catherine Derrig who immigated from Ireland to Canada sometime in the 1840's. Catherine's maiden name is Collins. I think she was born in 1817 in Ireland and died in 1898 in Chicago, Illinois. I don't have any information on John Derrig beyond that his name appears on Catherine's death certificate as husband. They had 5 children per the 1851 Canada census: John J. Derrig (born 1848, died 1915), Anna Derrig (born 1841, died 1920), James Derrig (born 1847, died 1937), Martin Derrig (born 1842), Michael (born 1840). I found 3 of the 5 children settling in Chicago, Il around the 1870's per the census records. Any help you could provide on John and Catherine Derrig would be appreciated. I don't have any living family members who know anything about the Derrig family line in Ireland and I'm not having much luck researching on my own on the Ireland on-line records that I can find.
