Carol, We have a John Cavanaugh (wife Bridget Unknown last name) born about 1821 in Ireland, but we don't know where. Collateral lines McGuire and Cafferty were from Co. Mayo. Would anyone know if the "naugh" ending on the Irish last name has any significance ?? As in Cava"naugh" and a few other Irish surnames. I have a family of Magoo"naugh" and they are virtually non-existant in Ireland. A close sounding McGoona name has been found in Nevan a short distance from Dublin . I'm sure the Magoonaugh name was a mispelling of their last name when they came to U.S. in the late 1820's and settled in Watertown, Jefferson Cty, N.Y. where two of their children were reported to have been born. Then the family moved on to Dearborn, Wayne Cty, Mich and I have located them there with several different variants of this name. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you, Nancy
