Our DNA test now suggests Co. Mayo is the place to search for John K/Cavanaugh b about 1821 who married Bridget (Unknown last name). They emigrated to America about 1848 and lived in Scranton, PA. Many spellings of the name are found in U.S. census records. Denis McGuire is shown as the father of Patrick McGuire who emigrated from Co. Mayo (near Ballina according to aunts) to Scranton, PA. Patrick's obituary stated that he was one of 14 children of Denis McGuire (and Mary Gannon), but we only know the names of 5 of them: Patrick b 20 Mar 1829 (have other dates, too!), Thomas b abt 1833, Alice b abt 1835, Mary Ann b abt 1838, and Michael b abt 1843. It may be that the other children stayed in Ireland as we believe the parents did not emigrate. Anthony Cafferty b abt 1817 Co. Mayo married Catherine Ellen Scanlon abt 1845. They also emigrated to Scranton, PA. Children: John b June 1846 Co. Mayo, Mary b abt 1850 PA, Michael b abt 1855 PA, Catherine b abt 1857, PA, and Anthony John b Mar 1860 PA. All of my husband's emigrant ancestors came from Ireland, but we have so little information on them, that I'm not posting them right now. Georgia Cavanaugh
