Pam, Hi. I have William MARTIN in 1880 in Cincinnati, and then in 1900 in New York City. Unfortunately, he died in 1902, and I obtained his parents names from that. William was born in 1856. He seems to have immigrated to the US in the area of abt 1870 from what information I have on him from 1880-1902. I don't have access to the UK census other than what is on the LDS website, and he had already left England by then. He worked as a waiter in 1880 up until the time of his death. Hi Pam, Yes, his age was 24 yrs old in 1880. He actually shows up twice in that particular census. Once under Hunt's Hotel in Cincinnati, and then again under the boarding house where he was living. This is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but it's worth a try. Laurence RYAN, born Ireland (not confirmed) Mary MCCLOUD or MCLEOD, born Ireland, county unknown. I'm assuming that they married, more probable in the US, but possibly Ireland, if both were in fact born there. My guess is that they married in the 1850's. My great grandmother, Ellen RYAN, (possibly Mary Ellen) was born to them in 1860, somewhere in Ohio. I suspect that "Ellen" might have been her middle name because her mothers name was Mary, and Ellen's firstborn was named Mary Ellen. Ellen's middle initial shows as "M" on of the census records I have. They lived in Illinois at some point, where I believe Ellen spent her childhood. Ellen, aka Nellie, shows up on the 1880 census in Cincinatti, Ohio. I have her marriage certificate from St. Xavier's Church dated November 1880. She married William MARTIN, an immigrant from England, who at the time of the marriage was working at Hunt's Hotel in Cincinnati. (1880 census) Sometime before October 1881, they moved to New York City, where their first child was born. I've got the trail covered from 1880 on for Ellen, William and their children, but have not been able to get back prior to that with any kind of paper trail. William MARTIN is a total mystery. His parents are named as William and Mary MARTIN, both born in England. I tried several birth records for the timeframe of William's birth, to no avail. The family says he was from Liverpool, but I haven't been able to find anything on him. It's been a struggle working with such common names, but I'm trying. Any help or stabs in the dark would be appreciated. Lori McBride-Nichols
I have updated the County Kilkenny section of my website (url under my name). I have added more names to the County Kilkenny Surname Registry and added two more tithe applotment transcriptions for the civil parishes of Tullaroan and Tullahought. If you submitted a name for the surname registry, please check it for accuracy. If you find a mistake or your data has changed, fill out a new form and put 'change' in the field where you want the change. Dear Lori, Do you know which County your McBride's were from? My great grandfather was Michael Francis McBride. He came to the US (NYC) in 1860 from County Kilkenny. His first born son (my grandfather) was Pierce McBride who was born in 1873 in Chicago. Pierce is the Irish for Peter. Michael had a brother Thomas and 2 sisters, Julia and Mary. Michael was the youngest. Beth McBride On Feb 14, 2007, at 6:29 AM, Lori McBride-Nichols wrote: > County Meath > > Peter J. Hi Dorothy, John McVeigh had a sister Elizabeth born in Newburgh, NY and a brother James also born there. My grandfather John McVeigh was also born in Newburgh Aug.10, 1857. My ggrandfather James McVeigh came to the USA about 1850. His wife was Margaret McEvoy. My grandfather went to Ireland about 1877 and married Mary Ann Creney, Craney in 1878, they had a son James born there in 1879. They returned to the USA in 1881. Perhaps they were cousins. Where and when was Mary McVeigh (McKeown )born? Do you know who her parents were? Anastatia, born 14 Feb 1852 was my great grandmother. I have not found her immigration information as yet, but it appears that she came to the US in the mid 1860's. With not finding her immigration, I don't know who she came with, so am unclear whether the whole family came to the US. I do have the information from Griffiths Valuation.
