JOHN MONAGHAN and MARY GILL were both born in Ireland, he about 1834 and her birth date unknown. I'm not certain but believe they were born in County Westmeath and possibly Castlepollard. They had at least two sons Thomas Francis Monaghan (c1873) and Patrick Aloysius Monaghan (c1877). The father and both sons immigrated to the States in either 1880 or 1881 depending on census and citizenship documents. I don't know if Mary came with them but the 1900 census show John to be a widower. I have never been able to locate the ship they arrived in, but it certainly was at New York. We have the complete history of the families after they arrived as they landed in New Jersey and "stayed put", but we have been unable to discover anything about them prior to their arrival. Thanks for any clues or connections. Ralph Forsaith Putney, VT
Greetings: I am researching Acel LEACH (1849 -1918) of the Noble & Monroe county areas of southeastern, Ohio. His parents were William LEACH and Susan MAHONY. William LEACH and first wife, Esther Elizabeth Mitchell, both from Maryland, are thought to have emigrated from Ireland. Acel married Harriet LEEK (1850 -1900) and had eight children, including Samuel, Fred, Cole, Walter, Charlie, Alice, Stella, and William. Samuel LEACH (1870-1964) married Angelica CARPENTER (1871-1935) and they had the following children: Acel, Pete, Arch, John, Bill, Lloyd, Kate, Jenny, Harriet, Gail, Barney and Ellis. Acel LEACH (1892-1976) married Rebecca CARPENTER (1896-1977). This LEACH family also married into the STEPHEN and HANNAHS families of the same area. Does anyone have information about this LEACH family? Thanks! Ken Stephen evenstephen@att.net

I'm joining in again today to see if I have better luck on St. Patrick's Day. I've tried before with no luck, but hope springs eternal. I'm trying to find my great-grandparents, John James SLOWEY (b. Ireland 1841), and Bridget Elizabeth DAVIDSON (b. Ireland 22 June 1842). She was the daughter of John DAVIDSON (b. England about 1805) and Elizabeth CLINE (b. Ireland about 1815-1820). This Elizabeth was the daughter of ???? CLINE and Elizabeth GALLAGHER. We believe that all of these folks were from the north of Ireland, and we think they were probably from County Monaghan We've tried all the usual sources (Griffith's, census records) with no success. Can anyone suggest another line of inquiry? If there had been such a thing as the witness protection program at this time, we'd think our folks were part of it!! Thank you. Interested in information about the Linnanes of Glendree. Greatgrandfather Edward Linnane emigrated to US ca. 1850. Looking for info about the rest of his family, in and around Glendree (Glandree). Mike
Looking for any information I can find on Laurence RYAN or Mary MCCLOUD. I have contradictory information as to Laurence being born in Ireland or the United States, but I'm concentrating on Ireland, as that seems most likely. Mary MCCLOUD was born in Ireland. I suspect that her name might have been Mary Ellen, as Nellie named her firstborn daughter Mary Ellen, and on one of the US census records, Nellie's name is listed as Ellen M. (I have other family members that went by their middle name and it was recorded on the census that way, so I'm just keeping open to the possibility in my search process.) Laurence RYAN and Mary MCCLOUD would have been born abt 1830's. Parents names and place of birth is not known for either of them. My great grandmother, Nellie (Ellen or Mary Ellen) was born in Ohio in 1860, the month of June from what I have been able to find. The one thing that remains consistent is that the family did live in Illinois at some point. I have a family that might be them on the 1870 US Census in Illinois. Nellie married in Cincinnati in November of 1880, so at some point, she returned to her state of birth for whatever reason. She relocated to New York City soon after her marriage. Any information would be appreciated, as I've been stuck on this for several years. Thank you! Lori McBride Nichols
Daniel HOLOHAN married Mary LEE on 24 June 1841 at St. Canice's in County Kilkenny. Their daughter Anastatia, b: 14 Feb 1852 was my great grandmother, born at 10 Vicar Street in Kilkenny City. Known siblings are: Mary, b: 13 May 1842 Anty, b: 21 Jan 1844 Johanna, b: 24 Oct 1845 Patrick, b: 7 Feb 1847 I suspect that Anty died young, as they named my g grandmother Anastatia in 1852. Anastatia immigrated to the U.S. ca 1865, married, and settled in New York City. Any info on any possible connections would be appreciated. Thanks so much! Lori McBride Nichols
Peter J. MCBRIDE & Ann QUIGLEY born ca: 1825 They were the parents of my great grandfather, Peter John MCBRIDE, who was born September 1850 in County Meath. My great grandfather immigrated to the U.S. ca 1860, and was settled in New York when he married my great grandmother. I'm looking for anything at all that could have something to do with the MCBRIDE & QUIGLEY family in Ireland. Thanks so much! Lori McBride Nichols
