    3. Hi Bob, Thank you for letting us know about the Mormon's information! I have emailed them and hopefully they will be getting back to me soon. My family came from Glin, Kifergus Parish in Limerick. My ggggrandfather's name was John Kearney. He was born in 1819 in Glin. He immigrated to St. John New Brunswick in 1842, then moved to Sidney Maine in 1843 where he lived until 1845. In 1847 he finally settled for the remainder of his life in Yarmouth Maine. He married Mary Scanlon at some point. I do not know if he married her in Ireland or in Canada or Maine, USA. I hope the Mormon's can shed some more light on John's family! Thank you for the tip! 1. [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] McGRATH & Others: Kingston, Ont. - B.M.D. Early Records
    2. Twenty-odd years ago, while attending a conference @ Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario ... I did some casual research at the Kingston Public Library ... which opened the door to my McGRATH FAMILY genealogy. Although none of my known family were from Kingston ... by unearthing their first child's 1829 Baptism record, I subsequently learned that James, had come over (under an alias, with 2 brothers), with the 1st Peter Robinson Settlers ... in 1823, to Huntley Township, (Ottawa area); ... Margaret Hartnett, [his wife, the eldest daughter], arrived with her family and the 2nd Peter Robinson Settlers ... in 1825, to Emily Township, (Peterborough area). They met, they married, they pioneered in Marmora, Ontario. Why was this first child's "Baptism" record in Kingston? The "Sponsor" was the clue ... Rev. W.P. MacDonald, V.G. I was informed that during the late spring, summer, early fall, Rev. MacDonald, the Vicar General for the area, (plus his predecessors and followers), would mount their horses and travel throughout the countryside and Canadian backwoods, doing yearly "clean-up" circuits ... in essence, performing marriage rites, baptising, and officially bury the dead. Upon returning to home-base, entries were made in the church records. I was informed ... at the time of the "recorded baptism" ... July 23, 1829 ... the child could have been any age - ! I was also informed that prior to the Kingston Catholic Church being built ... any earlier church records ... covering what-ever region was covered in the yearly circuits ... had been kept at "The Forts" ... [Fort Frontenac (1673) and Fort Henry (l812)] ... but those records had long since been transfered to St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal for safe keeping. [Apparently Kingston use to be considered a "Mission" outpost ... controlled by Montreal, which is why the records went back to Montreal.] I mention the above for anyone not familiar with starting the Canadian portion of their family genealogy in Ontario ... do not limit or restrict your "initial" research to just one area! Your ancestors may have started out for a specific destination ... even been allocated land in a specific area ... or expecting to meet up with other family relatives ... or whatever ... but due to a variety of unexpected circumstances in Canada's still primitive, pioneering backwoods ... life's plans often got quickly altered! ----------------------------------------------------------------- I do NOT live in Kingston! I have never lived in Kingston! I CANNOT be of further assistance in looking up any other information for you! [Possibly, by contacting the local branchs of the Ontario Genealogical Society within that region, they will be able to assist you ... or you can submit a query thru their newsletters! They have excellent web-sites!] Although I only recorded the entries which contained the name McGRATH ... [for the time frame I was initially interested in] ... it is hoped that these early Church entries ... might be of some interest to not only other McGraths, but also the numerous other family names mentioned. ------------------------------------------------------------------- [ The SPELLING in the entries ... is as recorded in the Register ] 'THE FIRST REGISTERS - ST. 1. [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] Introduction to my KENNEDYs
    2. Daisy Lyons
    3. Hello Listers I am new to the list, and to Irish genealogy. My Kennedy family (so far as I have researched) hail from Ballinderry and/or Ballingarry in Co Tipperary. I have Patrick KENNEDY b 1809 in Ballinderry, Co Tipp, and his wife Margaret UNKNOWN b 1816 in Co Tipp. Between the years 1849 and 1854 they moved to Rotherham in Yorkshire, England together with their 4 sons Patrick, Sylvester, John and Michael. Michael (b 1849 )and John (b 1845) were born in Ballinderry, whilst Sylvester (b 1842) was born in Ballingarry and Patrick (junior) (b 1838) is recorded as being born in Tipperary. A daughter Annie was born in 1854 in Bradgate, Rotherham, Yorkshire. I have been lucky enough to locate the family both as the children grew up, then became parents and grandparents, and have rough ideas of marriage dates, and dates of death for Patrick and Margaret. My own line is Michael (b1849), and I have quite good information on this side of the family, his marriage to Sarah Jane Griffin, and their subsequent 10 children. Their son Thomas (later Thomas Patrick) was my grandfather, the youngest of the children, whose mother died when he was between 4 and 14 years old. I have traced Thomas and his father Michael to Barnsley in Yorkshire where they live in lodgings and work as coal hewers. Apart from one of Thomas's sisters, Eliza, I cannot trace any of the other eight children. The family seems to have fragmented after Sarah Jane's death. I have been in touch with a grandaughter of Eliza who remembers her saying that her favourite brother went back to Ireland. I would like to trace this brother in particular for her family to know who he was. I would also like to trace back beyond Patrick and Margaret, but am unsure where I can look. If anyone knows of this family I would love to make contact with them. I have an awful lot of information to share. 1. Re: [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] [NY-IRISH] Irish in Calvary Cemetery, Queens NY
    2. Pat Connors
    3. I have just completed getting all the new pictures online, almost 1,000 in total. Yes, most of the gravestones are of those that mention a place in Ireland. That is the object of this project! We want to find where in Ireland our ancestors are from, it seems to be the hardest part of our ancestry. Many people from other parts of the country whose ancestors started in NY, don't have the chance to get back to NYC and check their ancestors' origins. So, this is a small part of Calvary and a marvelous gift from two who took time out of their busy lives to help others. Suggestion...even if you don't find your name, or even if you do, if you have the time to check out all the pictures, you just might find a gravestone in the background with your name that is not in the index. It should be noted, however, that previous photos only included the > gravestones of those that showed the deceaased was born in > Ireland. That is a small percentage of the Irish buried at Calvary > whether born in Ireland or not. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
