    1. Re: [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] Beirnes, Carrolls, Cassidys, Gavicans, Hanleys, McEl...
    2. Hi Fran, Regarding the Hanleys from Roscommon! This is a long shot but I will mention it anyway. My daughter-in-law's maiden name was Hanley, she was born and grew up in Michigan. Her dad had mentioned that their ancestors came from Roscommon but he didn't know much beyond that of their family history. Her dad is now 83, I believe it was his grandfather who emigrated. Do you have more info on your Hanley branch? Her dad has siblings that are living and may know more about their roots than he does. Happy Hunting! 1. [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] Ireland Roll Calls/McCabe/Quirk/Dohney
    2. I am researching John McCabe b. Ireland in 1854 according to death records. He was in St. Louis Mo by 1870 and married about 1880 to Ellen? They had four children ....John b. 1887 , Arthur b. 1885 one daughter Mary Ellen b. about 1890. The children were all born in St. Louis but, I cannot find the fourth child born to them. Ellen remarried a man by the name of John Isreal/Israil by 1895. John Israel had two sons by a previous wife named John and Bernard. I am also, looking for Edmond Quirk born 1835 Ireland and married Hannorah Ann Dohney, she was born in Ireland in 1835, the 1900 census gives there time in the U.S.A. as 46 years...but, I cannot find any naturalization records for them. They had five children but, I am aware of only three...Daniel b. 1860 and died 1882, William born 1858/1866 and died in 1908 at the age of 50...so, his birth date is very much in question and a sister Mary Ann b. 1866 and died 1891 all in St. Louis MO and buried in Calvary Cemetery with Edmond and Ann. I don't know the area of Ireland that these people came from and have tried every avenue to track their travels but to no avail. Thanks so much! Pat

    3. Hi Lorri, My Beirns (Beirnes, Berns) were from Boyle in County Roscommon, Ireland. Elizabeth Beirne, my gr-gr-grandmother, was the daughter of Thomas and Cecilia (Hanley) Beirne. Elizabeth had a brother, Thomas, born in 1794. Elizabeth married Thomas Gavican (Gaviken) in 1812, and, I believe, they had six children. There were undoubtedly other children who I have not found yet. I also have a gr-gr-grandmother, Elizabeth Carroll, daughter of John & Sarah Carroll. She was born in Ireland circa 1823, married Bernard McElroy in Providence, RI, USA, on 9/28/1847, and died there on 6/22/1900. I'd be happy to answer questions, if you should have any, and if I can. Good luck with your searches. 3. Hello, Lorri: RE your search for CARROLL and QUINN: I am researching John/Daniel CARROLL and Mary QUINN who lived in Offaly, probably Portarlington area. Their son John, b. 1831, emigrated to Springfield, MA, USA around 1852. He married Rachel MacLean and they raised their children in Springfield. John was my gggrandfather. Any connections? I have the names of John and Rachel's other children if that would help. 3. My ancestors are the Minihanes (Bawn) of southwest County Cork, townland of Ballyally, between Skibbereen and Baltimore. Andrew Minihane who was born around 1770, died 1841, married Catherine Twomey abt 1799, b 1778, d 1857. They lived in Ballyally, Skibbereen. They had 8 children: - Michael, born around 1800, married Maria McCarthy and had six children - Ellen, born 1811, died 1881, married Daniel McCarthy, 1803-1886. They had 8 children and moved to Perth County, Canada. - Richard, 1816-1841, married Johanna Bohane, born 1823 - they had three children - Denis, born 1820, married Mary Keohane. Might have had a son, Michael. Moved to Australia - Mary, born 1823, married Daniel Owens. Don't know anything else about them. - Margaret, born 1823, married twice, first husband's surname might have been Boig - Catherine, married Bartholomew Collins and they had two daughters - Andrew, 1824-1880, married Mary Anne O'Driscoll and they had 6 children. Quite a few of their descendants currently live near New Ross, Ireland in County Wexford. I have details on the following generations of Michael and Maria McCarthy Minihane, Ellen Minihane and Daniel McCarthy, and Andrew and Mary Anne O'Driscoll Minihane. Am looking to make connections with possible descendants of any of these Minihanes or anyone doing research on them. Barbara Walsh St. Louis, Missouri USA

    2. KMA
    3. I am trying to break through a very stubborn brick-wall regarding my gggrandparents - the surnames in my search include: Quigley, Lane/Layne, McKenna, Bland, McGee, Matthews, Gernan and Connaghey. My gggrandparents were James Quigley and Elizabeth Lane (sometimes spelt Layne) - they were married in the Catholic Diocese of Armagh RC Parish of Kilsaren, Co Louth on 7th November 1836 - their witnesses were John Gernan and Mary Connaghey. The children of James and Elizabeth that I have managed to identify are: James Quigley: My g grandfather who came to goldfields of Victoria, Australia in the 1840s Matthew Quigley: Who went to Boston in the 1840s and was one of the first Policemen Ann Quigley: Who married John McKenna a harness maker. When their son Owen was born on Dec 22, 1878 they were living at a place called "Charleville", Co Louth. I have also found via a "Will" that Ann had two more children James and Mary. William Quigley: Unfortunately I have no information on him Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Kindest regards Karen Kestigian

I now have all the civil parishes for both the Clanwilliam Barony and the Kilnamanagh Lower Barony, so tomorrow I will work on indexing them for easier lookups. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    1. [IRELAND-ROLL-CALLS] Derrig
    2. Mickey Derrig
    3. I am trying to gather information on John and Catherine Derrig who immigated from Ireland to Canada sometime in the 1840's. Catherine's maiden name is Collins. I think she was born in 1817 in Ireland and died in 1898 in Chicago, Illinois. I don't have any information on John Derrig beyond that his name appears on Catherine's death certificate as husband. They had 5 children per the 1851 Canada census: John J. Derrig (born 1848, died 1915), Anna Derrig (born 1841, died 1920), James Derrig (born 1847, died 1937), Martin Derrig (born 1842), Michael (born 1840). I found 3 of the 5 children settling in Chicago, Il around the 1870's per the census records. Any help you could provide on John and Catherine Derrig would be appreciated. I don't have any living family members who know anything about the Derrig family line in Ireland and I'm not having much luck researching on my own on the Ireland on-line records that I can find. 3. I have added the following civil parishes to the Limerick section of my website: Aglishcormick, Ballinard, Ballinlough, Castletown, Fedamore, Grean, Rochestown, Tullabracky, Tuogh and Tuoghcluggin. Since the tithes for all the civil parishes in the Coonagh Barony and Owneybeg Barony are transcribed, I have indexed them by surname for each barony for easy finding. Go to the index, lookup your surname and get the civil parish. On the civil parish website, you can get the townland. If you think you find your ancestor(s), the Family History Library film number is on the civil parish webpage so you look use the film to get more info plus check for accuracy. Some of the handwriting is very difficult to read, so there may be mistakes in my interpretations. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
