Hello, I'm in Canada. Searching for connections to DUKELOW. My ggg grandfather PETER DUKELOW came to Canada by 1838. Also his grown sons/daughters came. Would like to talk to anyone with information on where they came from. I have info that they may have originated in Creagh and Abbeystrewery is mentioned but it appears to be a church, rather than a parish/community? Need lots of help on understanding the geography of this area. April in British Columbia, Canada
Desparately seeking some or any information on brothers 3. John, Michael and Lawrence Mitchell from Galway. They are my stonewall. The brothers settled in Kingston, Ulster County, NY. Earliest date there is a grave marker 1851 for John's wife Bridget buried in St. Mary's Cemetery Kingston. My need is where in Galway did they come from and how did they get here? Have searched the ship lists, have US citizen papers, etc, etc. Know churches attended here. Any and all help, hints would be wonderful. Judy Christopher
Still looking for Luke Comer and Kate Larkin of Stonetown, near Glenamaddy, Galway. Does anyone know if an international money order for the British Isles will work as payment for document from the Western Health Board in Galway? Thanks, Pat
Hope I'm not too late to give a "shout" for MCDERMOTT. Rose, or Roseann, came to the US between 1847 and 1854, from near Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. She was in New York "for a while", then went to Greene County, Pennsylvania, where she stayed with an uncle, MICHAEL MCGOVERN. She married Henderson Wise in 1859 and lived in Washington County. Do not know the family connection with McGovern, other than he was an uncle. There was another uncle living with them by the name of THOMAS DRUM. If anyone has any clue to my husband's first great-grandmother, we'd very much appreciate hearing from you! Thanks so much, Carole Watkins Rocklin, California
I've just started researching my husband's side of the family. His great grandparents are Patrick Francis MALONEY (b. about 1868 in Galway) and Mary O'HALLORAN Their daugher (my husband's grandmother) is Mary MALONEY (b. 12 Jun 1885 in Galway at 9 Cross Street) She came to the states and in 1906 married Francis Leo LANDERS. She died in 1965 in Boston. Her siblings were Catherine, Patrick Francis, Jr., Sarah and James. If anyone is researching this family, I would love to hear from you. Thanks Patricia Champaign, Illinois
Well, I hope everyone's week went well, we had some really good roll calls last week and now moving on to County Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. Quite a beautiful county and Galway town is wonderful, especially when they have the Arts Festival in July! As always, if you want to post a roll call for another county or an 'unknown' county, please go ahead. You just might be posting one that connects to me :-) -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton AV2005

Hi everyone, I am searching for two DEARING/DEERING families in the hopes of connecting the two. Robert DEARING b. c. 1801 in Clones, Monaghan. He appears on the 1837 muster roll of the Militia for the 1837 rebellion in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada so must have been here before 1837. He appears to have been married before to an Elizabeth?? and we think perhaps that she died before the family's coming to Canada. They had two daughters, Sarah and Ann. They settled in West Gwillimbury, Simcoe County, Ontario Canada. He had two sisters, Ann who married a McCRACKEN b. 1801 ? and Sarah b. 1794 in Clones, Monaghan Ireland. Sarah married John CROSS. The other family is my line. Edward "Gilbert" DEARING possibly form Armagh, but not certain. He was born 1796. He married Eliza GLEESON. three children were born in Ireland- Mary Ann 1838, Robert 1843 and Edward 1846. Two more children were born in Canada- William Hugh 1853 and Robert 1856. They settled originally in St. Vincent Twp., Grey Co. Ontario Canada and later after Gilbert's death the family moved to the Manitoulin Island. Because of a close proximity of Robert's daughter on the Manitoulin and because of the contents of Robert's will, we have reason to believe that Robert and Gilbert were brothers. Does anyone know of these families in Ireland? Any help appreciated. Searching for the family of Patrick HAGAN in County Clare. The surname could be HOGAN or O'HOGAN. I notice the presence of the O'HOGAN surname on the County Clare surname list. This is the story I am working on, told by an elderly "cousin" of my line of Hagans: The earliest of our line to come to the U.S. was Patrick HAGAN (could be any spelling), born in County Clare, Ireland. He was a ship captain and possessed a letter of marque from the British government. Eventually he left the sea and came to the U.S. through the port of Charleston, South Carolina. This "cousin" does not remember dates as he only remembers his parents talking about the family genealogy when he was a very young boy. He did say the name used to have an "O" in front of it and the family used to be Catholic but dropped the "O" and left that religion. In my research I have found mention of a Captain Hagan of the frigate ROWLEY (armed merchant) in a 1775 newspaper article. I cannot find a first name so don't know if this is my Patrick or another Hagan. The earliest Hagan of my line I can document is Francis HAGAN who married in 1778 in Frederick County, Maryland, U.S.A. He is buried in a Catholic cemetery in Frederick and his headstone shows a birth date of 1763. The "cousin" said Patrick is either the father or grandfather of Francis Hagan. In 30 years of searching I have never found the birth place of Francis Hagan so conclude he was not born in the U.S. If Patrick was his father, and Patrick being a sea captain, Francis could have been born anywhere: Barbados, Ireland, England, etc. I have been to all those web sites and still cannot find mention of either Patrick or Francis. So, am I looking in all the wrong places? Is County Clare the correct birth place for Patrick and Francis or is the story told to me incorrect in these particulars? Unfortunately I am finding too many men named Patrick and too many men named Francis. If families only used middle names in the 18th century our searches would be so much easier. Would appreciate any help or advice. I am prepared to accept that there just are no records existent for the time period I am researching. Tks, Fred Hagan

John J. SLOWEY/SLOY/SLOWE/SLOE (b. 1841) and Elizabeth DAVIDSON/DAVISON (b.22 June 1842/1847)are a set of my ggrandparents. Family history says that they were Irish, however their 1st two children were born in Glasgow. They were Elizabeth, b. 17 Feb 1866, and James, b. about 1865. John J.and family emigrated to North America in 1869/1870. They are not found on the passenger lists of East Coast ports, so perhaps they entered N. America through Canada, although I've not found them in the St. Albans passenger lists. They are found in the 1870 federal census under the surname SLOY, and in the city directory of Allegheny City (now North Pittsburgh) in and after 1870. Three more children were born there, Eleanor, Catharine, and Mary Josephine (my grandmother) In 1876 they moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They are found there in the 1880 census. John died in about 1881, but Elizabeth lived on to move to St. Louis, MO in about 1893 Frank Gebhart
