Well, now that we have made it through Christmas and New Year's, it is time to get back to genealogy. Last I looked we were posting roll calls for Country Cork, moving on alphabetically, we are now on to County Donegal. So, all of you with with County Donegal ancestors, it is time for you to start typing...of course, those who missed the beginning of the alphabet or those who have ancestors after Donegal can still post your roll calls. No hard fast rule here....we are doing the weekly county as a reminder. In fact, I just found out one of my ancestors hailed from County Armagh, so I'll be posting a roll call for that county soon. I would also like to take the time to wish all of you a safe, happy and healthy New Year. One more thing, a while back I asked if the listers would like to broaden the scope of the list a bit to include some researching hints that we could all use. I received up to 100 posts and all were favorable to the idea. Now we have almost 900 listers and if any are really against doing this please write me off list. I will wait a week and if is still a go, I'll introduce a topic and we can all add to it as we see fit. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by ZoneAlarm AntiVirus

New to this list with my "brick wall"..... FULTON. Looking for the birth family of last child and my ancestor, Samuel Johnston or Johnson FULTON. He was born 8 May 1869 in Mokena, Will Co. IL and died 12 March 1963 in Joliet, Will Co. IL. He appears on the 1880 Will Co. IL census with his father, Joseph. After death of both his parents by age 11 years, Samuel was raised by an older sibling, presumably a married sister. Parents immigrated before 1869 with several older children and settled in Mokena, Will Co. IL, near Joliet IL. This is also sw of Chicago, Cook Co. IL. Siblings may have settled in areas of Will Co. or Cook Co. IL. Father: Joseph, FULTON b. 11 June 1829 in Belfast, Antrim Ireland d. 7 April 1881 in Mokena, Will Co. IL probably buried in Marshall Cemetery near Mokena IL Mother: Winifred or Winnie JOHNSTON / JOHNSON or BROWN from Belfast, Antrim Ireland or England d. ? 25 April 1875 in Will Co. IL Some of the info had been resolved, but the computer crashed and that info was lost. So starting over on some of it. Since there were several children born to the family, hoping to connect with the descendants to those siblings. Thanks in advance for any help............ Tricia M.

David KIRK married Anne STRANGE in County Antrim, probably in the Ballymena area. The only Irish record found for them has been one child's baptism by the Presbyterian minister at Kells. Their residence was given as Tawnybrack, a townland. In 1831, the family with ten sons and one daughter, immigrated to what became Canada. Parents of David and Anne are unknown, as are their siblings. Does anyone feel they may have a connection? June Kirk Arnison, Alberta, Canada

DWYER, O'DWYER (K)Catherine Mary O'DWYER (1851-1915) married John Andrew SULLIVAN (1847-1900) in County Cork: According to Beara Research O’Dwyer, they were married in Allihies church on June 1871. Fr. Thomas Carmody officiated. Witnesses: John Hurley (a tailor in Cluin=Allihies Village) and John Dwyer. John Sullivan was a Copper Miner. He and his wife Catherine settled in townland of Balllydonegan (down near the sea, about a half a mile from Cluin = Allihies Village), Allihies Parish, Beara Pennisula, Co Cork, Ireland. They had a total of 10 children, 3 died in Ireland, They came to Montana in 1885 with 4 children. They lived in Butte 4 years and moved to Flathead Co. Three more children were born in Montana. I believe Catherine O'Dwyer sister's name was Julia O'DWYER and she married a MULLIGAN and lived in Silver Bow Co., Montana in 1920. I believe Catherine O'Dwyer brother's name was William O'DWYER and in the 1910 census he lived in Dearborn, Wayne Co., Michigan. Would like to share information with other's who may have a connection. Donna

-----Original Message----- My Grandfather, Bernard McGuire, emigrated to the U.S. from Largybrack, Donegal, Ireland on the ship Astoria which sailed from Glasgow and arrived at Ellis Island on 4 Nov 1904. He had two friends with him, also from the same area. All were 22 yrs old (b. 1882). My Grandfather (all of them) went to Philadelphia, apparently to 2220 Shamokin St. to his sister, Mary McGinley. Apparently his two companions were also related to the McGinley's. In the 1910 census there was a Michael McGinley, wife Mary and 3 children living in this neighbourhood. I'm not sure how long my Grandfather remained in the U.S. My Father was born in 1915 in Ireland and had at least one older sister (out of 9 children, only 3 survived but I'm not sure exactly how many were older than my Father). Assuming that he only had one older sister and she was born around 1913, my Grandfather was possibly only in the U.S. for about 8 yrs. I knew my Grandfather, he died in 1977, and knew he'd been in the U.S. but am now interested to know more about his family. My Father died in 1999 and his brother, my Uncle, last year so there is no-one left to ask. My Aunt went to New Zealand in 1950 and never returned. I believe she has two children who may be living in Australia. My Aunt married a John Boyle. This was also one of the names of my Grandfather's traveling companions to the U.S. Any long lost relatives out there that might have a bit of history for me to fill in the blanks? Look forward to hearing from you. Anne Campbell (Living in Germany, born in England, both parents Irish)
I'm anxious to trace the date and place of birth of my grandfather and grandmother, Hugh McGorran (later changed to McGauran), and Sarah Tonner, who lived in Epworth St., Belfast, around 1900, with their 11 children. He came from somewhere in County Cavan and was a train driver. She came from County Tyrone and was a seamstress. Can anyone help?
G'day from Australia My ggrandmother, Maria Murphy, was born in Queenstown in 1833, and sailed for Australia in 1853 along with her sister Margaret. Alice followed later and they all married here and went on to have many children! Her parents were; Patrick Murphy & Catherine McCarthy. According to Slaters National Commercial Directory of Ireland (1846), Patrick was shown as a tailor residing at 8 Harbour Row Queenstown. However on one of his daughters death certificate his occupation was shown as an hotel keeper. Her death was in 1932. Maybe there was more money in beer than suits! The daughters were; Maria Murphy born 1833 Margaret Ann Murphy born 1835 Alice Mary born 1842 I have only been able to find these three children bit I feel that there may be others somewhere. We all know that the Irish had big families! There is a 7 year gap between Margaret & Alice so who knows. Being that this family was Roman Catholic, what records would be available to research? If there were some available does anyone have any suggestions for a researcher that I could use? Regards Ian Donaldson
Right here goes with the Cork roll-calls 1.John BARRY b. 17 April 1791 St Colman Cloyne (I don't know where I got that information, sorry. I am usually careful. I don't therefore know how correct it is) He married circa 1830 Anna Maria BUSHNELL said to have been born in Virginia USA c.1802. (no proof of this just family belief) This pair certainly had two children John Barry and Ann Maria between 1830 and 1840 when another two were born in Liverpool. Ann's death certificate of 1883 says she was born in Queenstown Cork (I know that now means Cobh) 2. Catherine Cecelia BUSHNELL sister of above mentioned Anna Maria also said to have been born circa 1802 in Virginia USA married William ROOME a ship's captain (born King's Lynn, UK) on 13 February 1827 ( letter from the Warden Clonmel Union, Cobh. 3. the two daughters had a mother named Joanna BUSHNELL who died at the home of Catherine Celia Roome in Green Point Cape Town. South Africa Both Barry and Bushnell families emigrated this Colony of the Cape of Good Hope during the late 1830 and early 1840s as did their mother. I have a great deal of information from there on. Anything, but anything on the Cork Cobh/Clonmel/Cloyne story would be wonderful. Happy to share what I have. Have a happy Christmas and joyous New Year all. Among their children was my great-grandmother. Merry Christmas! Marge:) --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
