Thank you. Yes, I have been into that site. I lived in Garden City for a short time as a small child--that was many years ago. Maybe sometime I will visit again--as needless to say I remember little. How can I access the LDS films? Are there any centres in England that would have access to the Irish films? If I could find a record of their marriage then I could order the certificate. I am guessing that Patrick was born about 1862 so assume that Kieran Phelan and Margaret Bergin were married around 1860. I know they lived just below Sragh in an area known as Goresgrove and when Paddy married Kieran bought the farmland at Sragh for him...the house at Goresgrove was passed on to William...that must be the one you mentioned. Thanks again. Jim
Jack, I found your story of interest because I too have an ancestor, my paternal great grandfather who emigrated to the US in 1863 from Northern Ireland was a weaver in County Down. In 1863 a wealthy merchant by the name of A. T. Stewart (his store later became Wannamaker's) in New York City. originially from N. Ireland, chartered a ship, the "Mary Edson" to take provisions to these people in N.I. who were suffering because of the blockade--and then he gave free passage to 137 people from that area to the United States, my ggrandfather being one of them. I found my ggrandfather, his sister, his brother and brother's wife and three children on the Mary Edson's passenger list--then I Googled the Mary Edson and got the story about A.T. Stewart. Sorry I can't help you--but was interested in your story about James Ramsdell. Civil registration started in Ireland in 1864 for births and deaths and RC marriages (1845 for Protestant marriages). Then there are both the 1901 and 1911 Ireland censuses that are available to you. All then needed records have been filmed by LDS. They have the births indexed by year. Since you already know the date of birth you can send for her birth certifcate from the General Register Office on this website: http://www.groireland.ie/ The certificate will give place of birth and then you can check the 1901 census for family member, same with 1911. After you get the area, you can also get some church records. Good luck. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by ZoneAlarm AntiVirus

Subscribe My grandmother's name was Margaret Coffey, born 22nd March 1895. She was originally from County Clare but moved to Ballingarry in County Limerick in her teens. She married Michael O'Doherty and continued to live in Balligarry until moving to England around the 1950s. She died in 1974. We know very little of my maternal grandmother's side of the family and wondered if anyone could fill in some of the gaps or suggest where I might obtain information with such little information to go on. I am researching the above name would be interested in hearing from anyone with the same interest to share information. Such information as I have so far: My Grandfather. Richard Christopher Bowen ( sometimes called Robert or Bob ) born 11/12/1878. Baptised at Ss Peter and Paul Cork City, 24/12/1878. Joined the Royal Field Artillery 1898 in Dublin (service number 28032) Corporal Wheeler. Married Florence Sabina Richards 26/07/1907 Shotter Mill, Surrey. Two children, Kathleen (b.1909) Phyllis (b.1911) Died 08/07/1910, Kirkee, India from beri beri. He had an elder brother who was in the Royal Army Service Corps. He may have been called Vincent. His father, Jeramiah, was a boot maker and at some point around the turn of the century, lived at 16 Grattan Street, Cork. His mother was Alice Fitzgerald. This may seem a lot but it all refers to a narrow band of time (1878 - 1910) and I have hit a brick wall at the earlier end. A lot of basic research in Cork has helped produce this information but the trail cuts off there in Cork. It seems likely that the family came from outside the city but where? Due to the feeling of the time, I am fairly certain that Richards family cut both him and his brother out of their lives completely when they joined the British Army. Any chance he had of a reconciliation was killed when he died so young. den The purpose of the icons, the purpose of the entire OS X look and feel, is to keep the customer happy during that critical period between the time of sale and the time the check clears.
