Davitt, 83, of 123 Paine St. died Friday night in the Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial. He leaves his wife, Annie (Baynes) Davitt; a son, Austin P. Davitt of Worcester; three daughters, Ann M. Forsyth of Acton, and Katherine J. and Theresa B. Davitt, both of Worcester; a brother, Austin Davitt in England; a sister, Margaret Davitt of Louisbourgh, County Mayo, Ireland; three grandsons; several nephews and nieces, including the Rev. James P. Kerrigan, pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland; and a cousin, the Rev. Richard O'Toole of Monson. He was born in Louisbourgh, County Mayo, Ireland, son of Austin and Bridget (McNamara) Davitt, and lived here 60 years. He worked for 25 years for Commonweath Gas Co., retiring in 1971. He was previously a baker for 12 years at Holy Cross College. Before then, he was a forging assistant at Wyman-Gordon Co. Mr. Davitt was a member of St. Bernard's Church and its former Holy Name Society. The funeral will be held Tuesday from Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Repair & Renewal Fund of St. Bernard's Church, 236 Lincoln St., Worcester, 01605.
