I don't know anything about him, Maureen, but my gr. grandparents, the Henry Wilson's of Larne probably knew him. They used to have John Wesley and brothers stay at their farm occassionally and family lore tells of John Wesley's settle bed, which he always slept in while in the area and which the grandchildren (my father and siblings) used to sleep in when they visited. The bed was left to a granddaughter and I don't know if it is still in existence. At any rate, I bet if they were that close to the Methodist community during those years, they probably knew Rev. Johnston while he was on the ministry circuit in Larne, Co. Antrim. Isn't it interesting how paths cross in genealogy? Elise Snoddy Klug sdklug@cox.net.
Thanks, Elise (lovely name!) and grand story. Thanks for sharing. Ireland is a small country and either one seems to have emigrated to another country altogether or stayed right in the same neighborhood generation after generation. Of five neighboring houses in my mother's hometown of Ballycastle, three of the families were related through marriage--and that's just in one block! I agree; it's amazing the paths that cross.
