    3. DEATH OF MRS. ELIZABETH (PARKE) GORDON OF CHURCH ST. ENNISKILLEN Saturday, August 12, 1916 At the venerable age of over eighty years, Mrs. Thomas Gordon, Church Street passed quietly and peacefully away on Saturday evening. For some months she had been in rather declining health, but had lately appeared to rally and in July went to Bundoran where the fresh sea air caused a rapid improvement that she was able to go about as well and as cheerily as ever, and to take walks of some considerable length each day. She was in fact looking so very well as to call forth congratulatory remarks from her hosts of friends. Three weeks ago, however, she was somewhat suddenly stricken down with heart failure and not having the resiliency or reserve of youth to combat it she gradually became weaker until the end came. A fine type of true Christian womanliness, a fond, prudent and tactful mother and a sincere friend her death causes a distinct gap in our midst. Resident in County Fermanagh all her life and in Enniskillen for the past sixty-one years the deceased lady was known to the great majority of people in this district and she was greatly esteemed and respected by all who had the privilege of her acquaintance. The references made to her life by the Rev. A. Harris, given below, will be cordially endorsed by all. Her husband, the late Mr. Thomas Gordon, predeceased her nineteen years ago. Very widespread and sincere sympathy is being extended to her family in their bereavement. THE FUNERAL The funeral took place on Tuesday to the family burying ground at Benmore and was very large and representative. The Chief mourners were:--Frederick, Harry, and Captain H.C. (Bertie) Gordon (sons); I. Parker (son-in-law); Cadet. R.G. Crawford, Donald Gordon, Dublin, Dudley and Ivor (Grandsons); Charles Gordon, Derry, James and Thos. Gordon, Churchill, Charles Parke (nephew); Thomas Corscadden, J.P., Holly Mount, Manorhamilton (Cousin). At the graveside the following clergymen officiated --- Rev. A. Harris, Rev. R.R. Sayers, Rev. F. Robinson and Rev. W.T. Dennison. (Taken from the Impartial Reporter)
