    3. >From The Cork Examiner, 15 March 1847 DEATH OF MR. JOHN SEYMOUR, JUN. ---------- OUR readers will learn with sorrow that this most respectable young man and gifted musician is no more. A few weeks since, we recorded the death of his worthy father ; to-day we deplore the death of the son. Both fell victims to that scourge of our city--fever. We have long known and respected the worth of father and son, and we now sincerely sympathise with the disconsolate widow and mother, daughters and sisters, thus bereft of their loving and affectionate protectors--their chief, if not only means, of support. Mr. SEYMOUR died last night. May he rest in peace.--Amen. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    3. I know these names are all very common, but my Margaret WILSON b: ca 1780-1800 m: before 1830 to Hugh DeBoys (not found any). Known children are: Isabella 1830 (have bap), James 1833 (have bap) and Mary Jane b: ca 1837. Margaret supposedly died in 1848 and is buried in Carnmoney Burying Grounds with her husband ... I don't know when he died but the children emigrated to America ca 1855 and ended up in Muncie, IN by 1870. I believe they lived in King's Moss (aka Kingsbog). Do you know where Larne is from Kingsbog? How does one look up Northern Ireland obits from the mid 1800s? 2. Becky Horne
    3. Hi there I'm looking for any link to the HENWICK descendants from Carrickfergus. According to family legend my GGGrandfather hails from this area. Fred (or Frederick ?) *c.1825 settled in the Cape Colony, which later became South Africa. Unfortunately I don't have much info, except knowing that he was married to Christina DENNIS c.1846. I have found a grave inscription which just might pertain to Fred, although the spelling of the surname is HUNWICK. This could be him, but maybe incorrect spelling? DEPOT Genealogical Society of SA DESCRIPTION Hunwick, F - Gravestone. STARTING 0000 ENDING 18590401 REMARKS Old Grahamstown Cemetery, Grahamstown, Western Cape. SUMMARY + Frederick Hunwick. Died 01-04-1859. Aged 33 years, 11 months and 15 days. Father of William Frederick Hunwick I have also found a letter from Christina in the South African Archives. Mrs E LYNAR: Misc correspondence The letter is addressed to the State Archives. Dated 4 July 1915 from 28 Armstrong Street, Port Elizabeth The writer tells of Mrs E.A. Lynar, living in Uitenhage, who was born on board ship on 19 Aug 1825, a few days before her arrival at the Cape. Her maiden name was DENNIS, she married a HENWICK, and then a LYNAR. Her parents were form Ireland, but it was not known whether she sailed direct. She gives a list of ships that arrived in Table Bay around this time: Penelope from English Downs, Maria from English Downs; HMS Champion from Portsmouth; Abel Tasman from Tasmania, Mulgrave Castle, which wrecked off Green Point, Venus from Cowes, Alpha from Rio de Janeiro and HMS Espregle. The writer suspects that she was on the Champion and needs confirmation that this is so. Signed: E.A. Henwick The archives writes back to Mr E.A. Henwick and says there is no record of any DENNIS's on the ship. However, children born at sea were normally registered at Stepney, London, and the writer would be advised to check there. LYNAR, Edward Alexander Fawcet, b. Ireland c.1833 d. Uitenhage, 4 May 1907. I would appreciate any pointers. Best wishes Becky Port Elizabeth, South Africa Researching: HENWICK; HILL; HORN(E); MEREDITH; DEYZEL; LARSEN; WILSON; LYNAR; HENNING; STERLEY; THECK; BEST; BRAUN, GREENER; GLANVILLE.

    1. [IRL-OBITS] Iowa Recorder; Butler Co, IA; Apr 27, 1910 "Obit of Julia Casey Gates"
    2. Cathy Joynt Labath
    3. Iowa Recorder Greene, Butler, Iowa Apr 27, 1910 Mrs. C. Gates, Sr., Called One of the Oldest Residents of Floyd County Answers Summons of Death The Recorder last week chronicled the condition of Mrs. C. Gates, Sr., mother of Senator Gates, Henry Gates and Albert Gates and Mrs. B.F. Hoil, all living in and close to Greene. Her broken arm and other conditions was more than her extreme age and failing constitution could bear up under for long and peaceful rest and the end of a long life came at ten o'clock, Friday morning, May 22, 1910. Mrs. Gates had been a lifelong member of the Catholic church and the funeral was held at St. Mary's church in this city on Sunday morning, Father Sheehy conducting the services. The remains were taken to Marble Rock and placed by the side of those of her husband buried there about ten years ago. The pall bearers were the younger members of the Gates families, two sons of Henry Gates, two from the Albert Gates home, Charley Hoil and John Gates were those chosen to bear the coffin and remains of their grandmother to the last resting place. Mrs. Gates was born in Ireland and came to this country when a young girl. Was married to Charles Gates in New York. In 1855 they moved to Iowa and settled at Marble Rock and a few years later they moved on a farm part way between Greene and Marble Rock on the west side of the Shell Rock river. Here they resided in peace and comfort until the death of Mr. Gates some ten years ago. Her daughter, Mrs. Hoil went to her mother's home and has devotedly cared for her ever since. For a long time Mrs. Gates would not leave the old home, but finally sickness and declining years were telling on her and she was persuaded to come to Greene and live at her daughter's home. This she did, though very reluctantly. A small portion of the time was spent at the home of her son, Senator Gates. Seemingly she could not find contentment though everything possible was done for her by those who loved and pitied her. In her younger days Mrs. Gates was a lady who had many acquaintances in her neighborhood. Highly respected and a good Christian mother, ever striving for the good and comfort of her family and friends. The Recorder joins the many in expressing condolence for the sorrowing ones. Note. Data at hand this morning gives the following: Julia Casey was born May 12, 1829, in Ireland, came to this country at the age of 19. Was married to Charles Gates in Rochester, New York in 1855 and moved to Marble Rock that same year. George Gates of Marble Rock is a member of the family being omitted from the names above.

He was one of the dignitaries who received the American Rifle Team on their first memorable visit to Ireland; and his son accompanied the Irish Rifle Team (as one of the "reserves") on their return to America. Mr. Joynt's remains were conveyed to Limerick for interment in the family vault. A melancholy shooting accident occurred on January 3d, resulting in the death of Mr. Richard J. Kane, of Whitehall, Parteen. He had bee out shooting during the day, in his own grounds and not returning, search was made, when his dead body was found among the shrubbery. One barrel of his gun was discharged, and the contents had penetrated the left lung, near the heart, causing instant death. It is supposed that the trigger had been caught by a branch while deceased was pushing his way through the bushes. The Irish-American New York City, NY Nov. 10, 1888 On Oct. 12, at his residence, Cahervalla, Kilpeacon, Mr. Edward Hannan (formerly of Newtown, county Limerick), died, aged 80 years, deeply regretted by his family and a large circle of friends. His remains were interred in Cahercorney Churchyard, on the following Sunday, and the cortege was the largest witnessed there for many years. 3. >From The Cork Examiner, 6 December 1862 CAHIRCIVEEN, FRIDAY.--I regret to have to inform you of the death of Mr. John O'Donoghue, draper, of this town, a circumstance which has caused the deepest sorrow throughout the whole district of Iveragh. Mr. O'Donoghue was distinguished by his large and liberal charity. Of every subscription started here he was the foremost supporter, and it is mainly through his generous help that hundreds, now earning an independent maintenance in America, were enabled to emigrate. He has left a wife and eleven children to lament his loss. --Correspondent. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    3. THE CONNAUGHT JOURNAL Galway, Thursday, February 26, 1824 DIED This morning, in Mary-street, Newtownsmith, of a lingering illness, which he bore with true christian fortitude and patience, Edward Blake, Esq. for many years one of the Magistrates of this Town, and the first Roman Catholic in Ireland who received the Commission of the Peace- it would be a useless task to enumerate the many virtues- the unbounded hospitality- the pure Christian charity which adorned the life of this excellent man, and rendered him a useful member of society. They will, however, live after him; and the poor, in whom his death will be a severe loss; and the opulent with whom his memory will be cherished, will raise for him in their breast a fir and splendid monument, "ere premius." DEATH OF MR. HAMERTON- We feel such regret in announcing the death of this Gentleman. He resided 43 years at Hamerton, the mansion of his ancestors, in the retirement of domestic life, and heretofore guarded by the affections of his neighbours, which he never ceased to merit. He expired on Wednesday last. A Coroners Inquest sat upon the body, when a verdict was returned of "Wilful Murder by some person or persons unknown."
