Hi Becky, In 1871 Carrickfergus, in the Province (county) of Ulster had a population of 9,452 people and 1,790 inhabited houses. There were 73 owners of land of one acre or more, and 149 of less than one acre, the rest were tenants. The land owners book does not show any Henwick's owning land of 1 acre or more, therefore, they were most likely tenants like most of our relatives. The largest private land owners at that time in Carrickfergus were, Marriott R. Dalway (1617 acres), the Marquis of Donegall who lived in The Castle in Belfast (2,275 acres) and the Marquis of Downshire, who lived in Hillsborough, County Down (3717 acres). It is very possible the Henwick's were tenants of one of these people. Good luck in your search.
