    1. [IRL-OBITS] UK Schools History Website
    2. Message forwarded via Dave Jassie
    3. Forwarded at the request of Kim - Hello Everyone This email is just to let you all know that the UK Schools History website is finally back on line. Some of you may remember the old site which went down in 2001 and you will find that the new one will follow exactly the same principals in that I will be collecting as many photographs as possible of school buildings from around the UK and as much historical information as possible to accompany them. The new site will differ slightly to the old one in that I am now able to accept information connected to a school even if you don't have a photograph available at present. And this time you won't have to wait for a full page of photographs to download to be able to view the ones that you are looking for. I'm sure with that if I receive half as much support as I did last time then the new site will be a great success and hopefully a valuable resource for everyone. Please send any photographs/information that you have to kim.bewick@ntlworld.com. And to view the site please follow the link below. Very Best wishes Kim http://chrisb.4ce.co.uk/schools_site/index.php

    3. Thanks, Maureen. Have you had a chance to go over to see the area? My daughter and I went over 2 years ago in late April and spent time in both Belfast and Larne at relatives. We also drove thru Ballycastle on one of our jounts out to see other parts of the county. Was great and am dying to get back. Elise ----- Original Message -----

    3. Thanks, Elise (lovely name!) and grand story. Thanks for sharing. Ireland is a small country and either one seems to have emigrated to another country altogether or stayed right in the same neighborhood generation after generation. Of five neighboring houses in my mother's hometown of Ballycastle, three of the families were related through marriage--and that's just in one block! I agree; it's amazing the paths that cross. 2. Maureen Williams
    3. I found this Obit. notice in the back of a Methodist Book, which my Grandfather wrote in 1917. There is no date or name of the Newspaper. I was wondering if anyone connects to this family and could provide the date of death. Death of Rev. I. Johnston: Father of Methodist Conference Rev. Irvine Johnston, Bangor, passed away yesterday in a Belfast nursing home. Deceased who was in his eight-nineth year entered the Wesleyan Church in the year 1855, and was actively engaged on different circuits from North to South for a period of 47 years. About the year 1902 he became a supernumerary, and went to reside in Bangor, where he enjoyed well-earned rest until a serious ailment necessiated an operation. Being an evangelist of no mean order his zeal bore fruit in various circuits. The late Mr. Johnston was a native of Drumquin, Co. Tyrone, and married Miss Beatty of Ballinamallard, who, with a son and daughter, are left to mourn his loss. His son is a principal of the Craigmore Boys Home, while the daughter is the wife of Rev. W.H. Smyth, B.A. The late venerable clergyman was the father of the Methodist Conference in Ireland.

    3. I don't know anything about him, Maureen, but my gr. grandparents, the Henry Wilson's of Larne probably knew him. They used to have John Wesley and brothers stay at their farm occassionally and family lore tells of John Wesley's settle bed, which he always slept in while in the area and which the grandchildren (my father and siblings) used to sleep in when they visited. The bed was left to a granddaughter and I don't know if it is still in existence. At any rate, I bet if they were that close to the Methodist community during those years, they probably knew Rev. Johnston while he was on the ministry circuit in Larne, Co. Antrim. Isn't it interesting how paths cross in genealogy? Elise Snoddy Klug sdklug@cox.net.

    3. I am trying to find an obit for the following, and would appreciate any help which could be given. ABBIE LYONS/LEHANE, abt 66 yrs, died 4 May 1941. Husband John Lyons/Lehane. Her residence is given as 58 Wyckoff Street, Brooklyn, NY but since there does not seem to be any record of her death in the NY index I am wondering if perhaps she was back in Ireland at the time of her death. She had a brother, John Lyons, living in Kilnamartyra at the time and I think she was born in that area in 1875. Her husband's name was John Lehane, b: Ballyvourney, Co. Cork, but he changed his name to LYONS when migrated to USA. Her maiden name was also LYONS. They were known as Lyons in USA but it is possible that her death may have been recorded under the name LEHANE. Would really appreciate any help in tracing this death.
