Please read right through as I need you input. Dear Listers This is the topic for this list,IRELAND-CEMETERIES-L Topic: A mailing list for anyone searching for their ancestors in cemeteries in Ireland or interested in preserving historical information about these cemeteries (including locating graves, Descendants within the graves, cemeteries which have been indexed on the internet and in other written forms, and care of tombstones and the inscriptions thereon) and sharing information about them. But I am now concerned that in fact some of you join this list with the intentions of finding details off tombstones, I have conferred with rootsweb and they have given me some suggestion to make both the Irish Tombstone and this list a viable concern. You see when I index or type up tombstones I just post them to that list, which of course is where one would expect them to go, but in my searching I often write up the history on the churches and graveyards, state of a tombstone etc....... now this does not belong on the tombstone list or does it ? no it belongs on here but should when we post to this particular list just make a note that tombstones have been posted to that list I need input into how we are going to redefine our topics for Ireland Cemeteries and still hold with what everyone needs, plus if any of you are on the Tombstone listing you will a similar request on that list. I guess my main concern will be that I do in fact wish to maintain the lists so that whatever is required by listers can be posted to the list ...but allowing you to either join both or utilise what we have to a better degree and to do this we may have to redefine the rules of topics.... I hope this muddled request is given careful thought and that you all give me some input, on or off the list I do not mind, but I surely need advice Thanks a million Yours CARA List Admin for Ireland Cemeteries Ireland Tombstones Ireland Obits Co Wicklow
When I found the website IRL-CEMETERIES my expectation was that I would find ANY/ALL information's relating to cemeteries in Ireland. That would include locations of cemeteries, directions on how to find a cemetery if one was travelling in the country and physically wanted to visit a particular cemetery, also transcriptions/lists/indexes if available as well as information on the state of the cemeteries e.g. whether they are currently in use, abandoned, historical sites, needing funds for preservation etc. In other words as I have stated above I would expect to find ALL information pertaining to Cemeteries in Ireland. It seems to me that if the 'list keeper' is restricted to what can be posted then the list would be incomplete regarding information on cemeteries. If all information's can't be printed would this not result in the need for other 'lists' to be set up posting the information that can't be posted on the site you now have? Listers would be bogged down jumping from list to list trying to gather the cemetery information. Mass confusion. Keep up the good work CARA. I very much appreciate the help you have sent my way.
