My husband's ancestry goes back to his Great-Great-Grandfather, James Lycurgus POTTINGER. He lived from about 1820-May 30, 1871. All I know is that he came to America to enlist to fight against it in the American Civil War because he hated slavery. The 1870 Boone County, KY Census lists his birthplace as Ireland. In the census, it is spelled PODINGER, but that could just be a misprint. I have been unable to find many Pottingers in searching Ireland genealogy websites. I know nothing of his parents, or if he had siblings, or anything. Where can I look for more?
