I'm researching Bellaghy protestant's Cemetery for KELLY especially John Kelly reported to have died 16 January 1897. Also Jackson's. Many thanks for any assistance. Desley Smith, Queensland, Qustralia.
I'm looking for any information on HOUSTON especially William Houston and wife Jane Wylie. Also others with the Wylie names. They would be buried in a protestant Cemetery. Many thanks, Desley Smith, Queensland, Australia.
Many thanks to Cara-Links for the information. Anita.
Judith, I believe the sons of Peter Linn were Bernard, Michael, Terence and Charles. These names were also recyled several times for their sons in America, along with the names John and Francis. Hi, A quick reminder that virus warnings are not welcome on this list. Please keep all such discussions off-list. PLEASE NOTE though: Ensure your virus protection is up-to-date as there is a really nasty one on the loose at present. It pretends to be an update to Outlook Express, and if your computer becomes infected, it attempts to format your hard drive. So, keep your eyes open for an e-mail with the subject line "Outlook Express Update" - the JS.Gigger.A@mm is probably lurking!!! Thank you to everyone who responded with useful advice and assistance. My grandfather's name was Edward CUMMINS but I guess I'm really looking for his father Thomas CUMMINS and his mother Margaret (nee McDONAGH) they were married in Balrothery on 18 April 1894. Thomas' parents were John CUMMINS and Mary (nee SMITH). Margaret's parents were James McDONAGH and Margaret (nee CULL). It seems that Thomas and Margaret CUMMINS later moved to Glasgow but I am trying to track back and find information about the rest of the family too. Dear Terry, No direct references to MACDONNELL I am afraid. There are two general references to the Macdonnells which are listed below. Kind Regards, Judith Mellifont. Antrim Carrickfergus, St. Nicholas' Church of Ireland Church, Chichester Memorials O.S. 52. Grid Ref. J412874 John ( 1565-1597 ) and Arthur Chichester ( 1563-1625 ) were younger sons of Sir John Chichester of Raleigh, near Barnstaple in Devon. Both men served in Queen Elizabeth's armies in Ireland in the late sixteenth century. John became governor of Carrickfergus and was killed in 1597 at Aldfreck near Ballycarry, county Antrim, in a skirmish with the *Macdonnells*. Arthur Chichester, who arrived in Ireland two years later, was a veteran of the Armada campaign of 1588 , had accompanied Drake in 1596 on his final voyage to the West Indies, volunteered for Essex's expedition to Cadiz in 1597 and had fought with the English forces supporting Henry 4th in France the following year when he was knighted by the King after the siege of Amiens Chichester was one of the most successful (and controversial) of the military adventurers in Ireland in this period. His advancement from the comparatively minor post of governor of Carrickfergus to the office of Lord Deputy of Ireland was accomplished in just six years. In 1612 , the year in which he relinquished Lord Deputyship, he was raised to the Irish peerage as Lord Chichester of Belfast and was subsequently appointed Lord Treasurer of Ireland. He became a member of the English Privy Council in 1622. 1. Sir John Chichester, beheaded by the MacDonnells 04 Nov 1597 ; near his coffin, which is broken down, is the blade of a small sword, with some lime. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry A. My Gt.Gt.Grandparents Owen McLOUGHLIN & Ann LESNAN were born in Co. Sligo, they emigrated to Lancashire, UK in about 1850. I have been unable to find out exactly where they originated from but apparently Owen is an unusual name to be in the McLOUGHLIN family & I am hoping that the naming system that our ancestors followed might help in my researching further back into the history of my family. Would anyone know if there are any transcripts of Cemeteries in Co. Sligo on-line. TIA, Anita in New Zealand.
Quite some time ago there was a posting on the Genire list regarding Clonmult Cemetery which is located somewhere between Midleton and Youghal, County Cork. We will be going to Ireland in August and I am interested in visiting this cemetery so am wondering if anyone would have an exact location. Thanks for any information. Kay
