    3. Now this was absolutely great information, we need more like it! As a Texan, and having nearly all Irish-Scottish lines, I have felt so blank, trying to just guess at things! Certainly helps put our genealogy into a better perspective! Thanks Jane!! Wish I could help, but at my age with my health problems, I'm of little use anywhere anymore. But if circumstances differed, I'd gladly grab on! Thanks again, Jean Jane Lyons wrote: > Carol, > > What people forget or don't know, is that there was free movement between > Ireland and England at that time. 3. Jane; I have a huge problem. When my gr.gr.gr.grandmother died in Co.Antrim, her daughter was presant at her death and on Elizabeth TULLY's death certificate it states that Jane TALLY/TULLY was livng in Dublin at the time. The problem is, we can not find her. Not anywhere in Dublin. Jane signed the certificate and where it asked for her pace of residence, she states Dublin. Do you have any clues s to how or where we can look for her?She is not even listed on the Ireland death records, not anywhere. So my thought is that she may have married. Wouldn't there be an Ireland marriage record? Any help would be apprecated. Even a place she was buried at. Something. Kind regards, Sharon/ USA ===== sar5r@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail! http://promo.yahoo.com/videomail/

    1. Great Britain and Ireland : Re: [IRL-CEMETERIES] Fw: FreeCensus - Please spend a minute to read
    2. Jane Lyons
    3. Carol, What people forget or don't know, is that there was free movement between Ireland and England at that time. Ireland was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland - (I think that's the correct terminology). Irish and Scottish people were not regarded in any way as being different from English - as such they moved freely from one country to the other - they were recorded in the early British censuses as being born in Ireland or from ireland. This is the reason there are no passenger lists or any kind of lists to show who moved from here to there. It was like the movement between two states in the US, requiring no documentation or permits I'm making this post - not to correct you or your terminology, but to let people know - you shouldn't have to say that people may be put off by the word English. The Irish - and I'm not talking about rich Irish or Protestant Irish (there were rich Catholics and poor Protestants) - the Irish people moved in and out of Britain like nobodies business - in order to get work - they were a migrant population of labourers. A huge number will be listed in teh various English censuses and for many who search for their ancestors - it's England they may be found in. Those of you who search so diligently for information on your Irish ancestors, may find this a very worthwhile project to become involved in. I wish you all the best Carol, with your appeal - the unfortunate thing is that there are so many who want information and so few who are willing to help. Good luck. 3. Hello Maureen & Janet, I imagine by now you would have been in touch with one another to see if you are working on the same family tree? I have done a quick check on the internet for the name of CALLAN & have found a couple of places where you might like to look. There is 17 Callans during the period 1803 to 1886 in Tasmania (it is possible because of the dates some of them may have been sent out as guests to our shores) check out the site at www.archives.tas.gov.au A Mary Ann CALLAN also left a will in Tasmania in 1881. There is a Callan Park at Rozelle (suburb of Sydney) this opened in the late 1800's to become a mental Home, pictures & information can be found on www.pictureaustralia.org . It is possible that this Home may have been founded or named after a particular person called Callan, you would need to do further research to ascertain if this is so. You could always do a NSW archival search which may be helpful. There are also 5 people with the name of CALLAN in our local telephone book. Havanna CALLAN was born on the Gold Coast in Jan 1988, her mother was Suzanne CALLAN. As you can see from the above, the name is here in Australia, hope the above is helpful. I will be in touch further when I can get to the source of my previous information. Cheers Colleen

    3. Would someone be able to do a lookup for me for McNaugher, McNougher, Menogher (all variations of the same name) in Co. Donegal. My main names are Catherine (Cassie) Beattie nee McNaugher and John Beattie. Probably died late 1800's, early 1900's. They were in the Parish of Burt, Townland of Drumhaggart which is opposite a cemetery. Most probably Presbyterian. Also Charles McNaugher and Nancy (Ann) nee Ferris, probably buried Aghadowey. Church of Ireland or Presbyterian. Thank you for you time. Cheers, MAGGIE

They may have been in Donegal between 1827-1847 and I also have a reference to them living at 1 Albert Place, Brndons Street, Walworth, London but I don't know when. I know this is a bit vague, but maybe it will ring a bell with someone. If anyone has any clues, please let me know. Thanks Jenny in (mostly) sunny Central Queensland
