You could try contacting the Conallan Council they should have a cemeteries dept who should be able to assist or alternatively try www.historyfromheadstones.com failing that you could try contacting the local paper and placing an advert, you may be pleasantly surprised. good luck ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Harpur" <keseng@absamail.co.za> To: <IRELAND-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 11, 2005 11:51 AM Subject: [IRL-CEMETERIES] James HARPUR - 1870's >I would dearly like to find out anything available on James HARPUR, a >farmer > in the Conallan parish, Co.Down. > His son Isaac was born in Warrenpoint in 1878, and married in the > Presbyterian church, Warrenpoint, in 1906, but he may have been a Church > of > Ireland member. > He was married twice, to Martha CORKEY, and later to Bella MACCARTNEY. > I don't know where he was buried but I must, for now, presume that he > stayed in the area. > Is there anyone who has headstone data for the local cemeteries, who may > be > able to help me find him? > Regards, Brian. > > > ==== IRELAND-CEMETERIES Mailing List ==== > DO NOT post virus/worm warnings to the list. > > ============================== > Census images 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871, plus so much more. > Ancestry.com's United Kingdom & Ireland Collection. I would dearly like to find out anything available on James HARPUR, a farmer in the Conallan parish, Co.Down. His son Isaac was born in Warrenpoint in 1878, and married in the Presbyterian church, Warrenpoint, in 1906, but he may have been a Church of Ireland member. He was married twice, to Martha CORKEY, and later to Bella MACCARTNEY. I don't know where he was buried but I must, for now, presume that he stayed in the area. Is there anyone who has headstone data for the local cemeteries, who may be able to help me find him? Regards, Brian.
I am in dire need of the birth date or age at death of Mary McIntire Alexander who died in County Londonderry on June 27,1878. Her husband, Joseph Alexander, died in May 1866. Letters from two of their daughters, telling of their mother’s death, were written from Maghereagh. They were with her when she died. Can someone give me some guidance? They were land owners and Covenanters. I don’t know what cemeteries might be in that area. Are there cemetery lists availlable? Is there anyone who might be able to help find this date?

Hi Muriel, Not sure if I replied to you on this or not so forgive me if I'm duplicating myself. These are only suggestions but may help you on your search. West Street is the main street in Drogheda. It's a small street all the same so the fact that your ancestors lived on West Street probably means that they were involved in trade of some sort as around that time it was quite a good address to live at (now adays it would be too busy of course). You could try contacting the Old Drogheda Historical Society and see if they can help. They're located at the Millmount Museum, The Governor's House, Millmount, Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland and can be reached at International Code, Country Code 41 9833057 and by email at info@millmount.net. I know for definite that they have or used to have a publication that lists all of the tenants of West Street (not sure if it was the Streets and Lanes of Drogheda by James Garry or a different one). Another option is the County Louth library (Drogheda is in Louth) as they might have the publications or could suggest who to contact. The librarians name is Miss Ann Ward. Correspondence should be addressed to her as Miss Ann Ward, County Librarian, Louth County Library HQ, Roden Place, Dundalk, Co.Louth, Ireland. Her email is libraryhelpdesk@louthcoco.ie and the phone number is International code, Country code (believe it's 353) 42 (there is a preceding zero but this is dropped for international calls) 9335457 or 9353190. Ireland is five hours ahead of New York if that helps you with the time zones. Last but not least you could try the local paper the Drogheda Independent at 9 Shop Street, Drogheda. Write them a letter c/o the editor and there is at least a 28,000 person circulation these days so someone should be able to reply to you. There are still lots of Fitzsimons and Keegans in the town. Based on the fact that they were Roman Catholic there might be family members with memorial cards kicking around. Some of these contained a photo of the deceased and their address. All of them contained the date of death and age of death along with a prayer and were sized to fit into a purse or wallet. Not sure if they were a common practice at that particular time but definitely the next generation would have used them and it might help you somehow. Good luck in your search. Hello, I recently returned from Ireland where I visited the Kilbarry graveyard in Dunmanway, Co. Cork. Unfortunately I could not find the graves of my great grandparents and great uncle, John, Mary and Timothy Buckley. It was so sad to see the cemetery so overgrown and it seems that no one cares about cleaning it up. Does anyone know if the town or the government is responsible for the upkeep? I also visited the cemetery at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunmanway where I visited the graves of some Buckley family members. It is an old cemetery but is kept up I believe by the church and family. I wish it was possible to repair the headstones of our loved ones, I truly would have loved to find my great grandparents headstone but had to settle for pictures of the graveyard alone. Is anyone familiar with these graveyards? Peggy

Hi Van, I am no expert I promise! The url I sent takes you to pages that have been transcribed by some very generous people for the benefit of us researchers. Thank you to them! I did a google search just now and as far as I can tell it was definitely recording the lives of Liverpool folk in 1833 and maybe as early as 1800. I am not sure where you are based but if we are looking for something in the UK we try a google search and scroll through the results. I have just done that and got 13 hits.
