    1. Death of Jonas WINDEL 1860-64
    2. Murray Jones
    3. Hello fellow listers The Griffith'sValuation recorded only one WINDEL/WINDELL/WINDLE in all of County Derry, Jonas WINDLE. He was in the townland of Moneyeany, Ballynascreen civil parish. Jonas WINDELL, a widower, married a Jane TAYLOR of Labby on 29 August 1856 at Draperstown Church of Ireland church. His father was William and hers Thomas. They had a least two children, Joseph C. (b. abt 1859) and Isabella (b. abt 1861). Isabella was my maternal grandmother's mother. Jane WINDEL (widow) married Robert CAMPBELL 5 May 1864, Draperstown Church. Her father was T. TAYLOR. It would seem to be the marriage of Jonas WINDEL's widow. I was therefore hoping that perahps someone may be able to help me track down the death date of Jonas and be able to perhaps get a handle on his birth date, roughly. Still trying to figure out a Rev. W.C. WINDELL from the area but that's for another day. It has been suggested that Jonas likely is a form of Johannes or son of John. For now, it's JONAS: - when & where did he die? For later: - when & where was he born? - when & where was he baptised? - when, where and whom did marry the first time? Piece of cake eh? Any help much appreciated. Thanks and have a great week. 3. This item could be of value to someone Elaine Hastings The Wine and Fruit Country of New Zealand Hawke's Bay Herald Sept 14 1888 John Mc DONNELL Page 4 Born in Ireland A man has just passed away who was a living link between the present age and that in which the earlier struggles of the Americans for their independence took place. In fact, the battle of BUNKER'S HILL was fought within the twelve months preceding the birth of John Mc DONNELL, who death is now announced in Ireland He was, therefore a hundred and twelve years old when nature at last succumbed to the destroyer it had so long resisted. We regard with wonder the few men remaining alive who bore arms on the memorable field of WATERLOO in 1815, but John Mc DONNELL fought in the Irish rebellion of 1798, and must have been twenty two years old at the time. He could probably distinctly recollect the news coming of the execution of LOUIS XVL, and nine months later, the decapitation of Marie Antoinette. He had, indeed, heard of many revolutions and attempted revolutions in the course of his life. His memory seems to have been pretty retentive to the last, and within the past six months he is said to have related stories of the rebellion in which he fruitlessly took part.

    1. Adgey and Hendron
    2. Goldstraw
    3. Hi, I have just been in contact with some people who said Adgey comes from Dundrod in Co.Antrim and I was wondering if there was any info on Hendron. I have a Mary Hendron who married Archibald Adgey in 1852. Mary was 22 and Archibald 23. Her father was George Hendron and Archibald's father was David Adgey. Archibald died in Australia in 1853. In a book "Researching Irish Australians"there is an entry for Adgey which says..... Dundrod Presbyterian Church,Glenavy. Erected by Agnes Adgey in memory of her beloved husband David Adgey d 23.7.1871 also in the grave are son David d 1852 (7 yrs), Eliza Jane 8.6.1852 (15yrs) and Archibald who died in Australia 20 .4.1853, and 29.3 1875 Agnes herself. It is noted that some of the year entries in the book are wrong as it says Agnes died 74yrs in 1975 which makes her 100 yrs older than her husband who died 71 yrs in 1871.It also says Arch died in 1859 ,but on the Victorian BDM CD in OZ he died in 1853 and is buried in the Geelong Cemetery in Victoria Australia. Oh !!! the slip of the pen. Anyway if anyone can help me with this info it would be gratefully accepted Regards Chris OZ

I can go back as far as my g-grandfather, Francis Joseph Dimond, who was born in Philadelphia in 1853. I know he had several brothers, but not their names. Although I believe one was named James. Would be interested in finding out the relationship between DIAMOND and DIMOND. My g-grandparents ( Francis and Julia Mary Altmier Dimond) are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Glenolden, PA. C. Cemetery, Granahan, County Derry - Diamond MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Full-Name: James E Pearce Margie: I have checked my records for the following names of persons buried in the above cemetery: McPeak Names: "ERECTED BY JAMES MCPEAKE OF TIRHUGH IN MEMORY OF HIS PARENTS MARY AND MANUS MCPEAKE THE FORMER DIED SEPTEMBER 1958 AGED 90 YEARS THE LATTER DIED MARCH 1860 AGED 99 YEARS R.I.P. MCPEAK TIRHUGH JAMES HIS WIFE KATHLEEN AND THEIR DAUGHTER KATHLEEN MULHOLLAND. ERECTED BY SARAH MCKENNA. I could not find any of the following names in my records: MCGLADE TROLLAND / TROLLAN / TROLEN / TROWLAND MORGAN There are 70 Bradley names in the cemetery. There are 31 Diamond names in the cemetery. I am interested in the Diamond family. My ancestor, James Diamond (1784 - 1851) was born in County Derry. His tombstone at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Kingston, Ulster County, New York, states he was born in County Derry. He married Jane McEldowney (1794 - 1866). They arrived in New York City, New York, in 1826 and settled in Kingston, New York. They had several children born in Ireland and several born in New York. Members of the Diamond family also married into the Muhholland family. I have much further information about the Diamond family in Kingston, New York. I would appreciate any information you have about the Diamond, McEldowney, or Mulholland families in the area of St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Granaghan, County Derry. Jim Pearce Nuevo, Calif.

    1. Lookup in a book
    2. Looking for James and Elizabeth FITZSIMONS burial site that may be listed in book published by Irish Genealogical Sources No. 23 & No 24 "Name Index to Tombstone Inscriptions of County Louth, Vols 1 & 2." They were Roman Catholic and lived in Drogheda. I do not know what parish they lived in but James had a shop at 5-6 West Street. James died 28 October 1899 and Elizabeth died 30 August 1898. I tried to purchase these volumes but they are out of print so I am hoping someone will have these volumes to look up - or possibly the books may be in a library. I would be indebted to anyone that will look them up for me. Muriel Fitzsimmons California, USA

    3. Dear Lists I sent this to several lists that might have some information. These are my Galway Irish Lines. I am hoping that some one might be able to come up with an obit on one or any of these individuals. Or tell me where would be a good place to search for one. If not an Obit any additional information on these individuals. These deaths probably all occurred in Western Galway close to Clifden. I know the records are sparse in some cases. Is there any chance in locating additional records or Obits on these people. Sergeant GREENE, in visiting the county gaol on Tuesday, said to the governor that he believed the number of his prisoners would be henceforward much fewer than they heretofore had been, owing to the visit of Father MATHEW to the county. I believe that this refers to my ancestor William Greene.
