    3. Cara, Thank you very much for your response to my post. I was aware that the ravages of time and negligence play havoc on headstone inscriptions, but was hopeful that someone has access to the church records or give advice on their location. I will check out RCB and PRONI. Thanks also for sending the URL for the BLAIR family, one of my David JUNKIN'S daughters, (Margaret) married a James BLAIR about 1767. The need for further research on the BLAIR family is clearly indicated. All the best to you and yours. 2. I'm looking for any information about the parents of Timothy O'Flynn and a brother, Eugene O'Flynn from County Cork. Timothy O'Flynn arrived in America in 1831. I thought someone might by chance know who their parents are and where they would be buried in County Cork. Timothy O'Flynn would be my great grandfather. His wife, my great grandmother, was Francis Clary, also from County Cork. Any information surely would be appreciated very much. Bob O'Flynn in Kentucky.

    3. Cara: Once Galway-Now Clare: It is my understanding that Mount Shannon lies at the very border of Galway and Clare counties. At the time of my ancestors birth (1847) this was in Galway County, in 1896 there was a border shift and Mount Shannon was incorporated into County Clare. I thank you again for your time in answering our questions and for your valuable suggestions to us researchers!! Debbie

    1. Your developing list
    2. Cara, may I add my thanks for your time and effort with the list you are compiling. And, may I add one more to that important list: Surname: EDWARDS Christian name: MARY (nee STAFFORD) Period: 1843 - 1860 Location: Townland of Bargy Commons or Forth Commons, Co. Wexford. For the list, too, in the event someone out there recognizes this name and has any information about this fine lass, my ggg-grandmother. MARY STAFFORD wed JAMES EDWARDS in Piercestown, Co. Wexford in 1829. Beginning in 1830 they had Patrick, Catherine, Mary, John and, finally in 1843, another John. Husband JAMES and children: Patrick, Catherine, Mary and the second John (presume the first John died young) are all found in Chicago beginning in the late 1850's and early 1860's. Nothing about wife, MARY STAFFORD EDWARDS. Presume she died sometime between the birth of the last John (baptized in Kilmacree, Co. Wexford) and when the rest of the family emigrated to the USA. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Richie Patton -- USA

    1. ANSWERS TO ABOUT MOUNT SHANNON AND DEATHS ETC.
    2. Cara_Links
    3. Dealing with each question on Shannon etc.--- 1- most graveyards transcribed anywhwere and I mean anywhere in Ireland are as a rule done by local people and are only sold to the locals and in a local area. *** and just asking a simple question here you sayCounty Galway currently County Clare *** Edmund O'Malley was born in Mount Shannon/Whitegate RC parish **county Galway, currently Clare County. I dont understand what you mean there ??? as Galway is Galway and Clare is CLare is there another meaning to this? and this then makes your other questions harder to answer--------given that you are talking about two counties. Galway and Co Clare are all covered by Local Libraries and historical societies and a search in Google will produce them for you But the one thing I do need to clear up here is the fact that you all wish to write to the local priest, and on all my lists that I admin, I do not advocate this at all. unless the said parish has a front office girl, my reasons being the local priest works 24/7 -he is on call to his parish at all time, he doesnt have the time to search his parish registers for you, knowing that the register has been microfilmed and is available at the Library in Dublin. as is later data available at the GRO etc. Now some of you have had success where you have written to a priest and he has found your family facts for you in the register at his church, but they are not all like this, and I hear the complaint on a daily base of those who have written to someone in Ireland requesting data and not ever heard back from them. You also need to take into account that deaths were not compulsory to be registered until later in the century( exact date is in another paper I posted to the Wicklow list this month) But in having told you my preferences, should you wish to write to the local clergy, go ahead, but be aware the rate of answers is very low. These days I do recommend that you DO- look for the local libraries and societies and see if they will assist you. All deaths were not registered and those you happen across in registers should all be transcribed whether they are yours or not, because someone needs that data, also you need to allow that ALL church of Ireland registers and other denominations but particularly the Cof I registers need to be checked to see if there in any of your RC ancestors deaths recorded within their registers. Not everyone had a headstone, there seems to be some belief that RC did not have stones, and whilst this is true of a lot of them, they did indeed have stones, but a stone was only erected if the money was available,. they did indeed place a thing called LOVE stones on loved one graves, even today within the area you are seeking ancestors if you are lucky enough to get close enough to the grave yard, find the oldest living person in the area, because this is where the knowledge is stored, not in registers, these registers we need have disappeared through time and age, let alone rebellions, and fire. Sorry if this is so long CARA

    1. CLOSEST GRAVEYARD TO INVER
    2. Cara_Links
    3. The closest graveyard to Inver village would be at the C of I church in Cranny Lower townland, just a half-mile east of the village, across the bridge and just south of the N 56. According to the Mitchell book (incomplete, as regards graveyards, I've come to realize), the closest RC cemetery is connected to the RC church in Drumard townland (village of Frosses) about 2 miles NE of Inver village. This was kindly checked out and found for me as I cannot read a map correctly to save myself from getting lost, I live on the theory that 1- I was born on a tiny Island -cant get lost there 2- I now live on a bigger Island - cant get lost there 3- When In Ireland I am on a biggerrrrr island and you cant get lost there just do another turn left Cheers Cara
