Hello Cara, thank you for the websites that you included in your e-mail. I should have included in my message that my Anderson's were Presbyterian in their faith. My ggrandfather (I made a mistake in my original posting) Aaron Anderson was a farmer at Spittle Hill and his eleven children from two wives were born there between 1847 and 1872, as far as I am able to make out, all of his children emigrated from Ireland to USA and New Zealand. Aaron died on 17 May 1896, aged 80 or 82 years, with at least one son in attendance, his wife, Martha, having predeceased him. Whilst doing a search for graveyards for Aghadowey Parish Derry I came across these web sites with MI for the area so thought they may be of use to others researching the same area for their ancestors and I thank those people who have so willingly placed these headstones for others to find I am also not linked to these sites in any way For Jim I suggest perhaps you locate the Church website for the area and as I do not know what faith I did not look for churches but most have a emailing address on them another suggestion is to email local libraries in the area sometimes they have a listing of stones- most books that have transcribed stones in them are usually sold in the local area .......... Hello Listers, can anyone give me the names of cemeteries in the Aghadowey Parish in County Derry. Some of you will know I am the convenor of Saving Graves Western Australia and am fighting the renewal process that has been in place at Karrakatta Cemetery (applies to all Western Australian Cemeteries) since 1986. The practice is outdated and outmoded and I do not believe that all options are being explored and considered. In my opinion the removal of headstones from a grave is legalised desecration. It has been brought to my attention that there are cemeteries in some Australia States and other countries that are considering this process. I would like to know what the current policy is for the removal of headstones on expired tenures and if there has been any policy in place for cemetery renewal that has been abandoned in favour of something else. I would like to know what the cemetery authorities consider a historically significant person buried in any cemetery and what privilege is afforded to graves of defence personal both officially recognised and unrecognised. Listers I also wish to tell you all that I am not responsible for any of these websites and I notice after the initial search some may go on to charge but it just may give you a lead to where your ancestors may be buried, allowing that they do indeed have headstones. Headstones were not of a protestant nature to include them, until later years. And the more money their was also was a contributing factor on whether their was a headstone. Hello List, I'm trying to find information on my ggggrandfather. Born c1790 His known son James Walsh married Ann Conron. James & Ann had the following children: Patrick b c1837 probably Muckalee He did not emigrate to Sydney Australia withe the other children. Matthew, John,Martin & Ann Matthew arrived in Sydney c1859 I have been unable to prove that Matthew Snr, married a Caroline. A priest gave me that info but had nothing more to give. I have no idea where the cemeteries in Muckalee or Castle Hoel (var spelling) are. Also in the family records Castlecomber has been mentioned. The young Matthew was saide to be in trouble as he refused to bend his knee to the monachy and was arrested, stripped of his name and shipped nameless to the colony of Sydney. On arrival he was put ashore. The story goes that he then took his name back, within 4 years owned a fair bit of the land around what is now Carrington Road and Bronte Road heading toward Clovelly in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. He then sponsored his parents in 1862/3 /4 James & Ann plus his brothers Martin & John and his sister Ann. I am really hunting for Matthew Walsh, his death & burial place. His son James was born in Kilkenny (Muckalee)c1814 we think and died in Sydney NSW Australia. Also the death of the son of James & Ann. PATRICK b 1837. He did not emigrate with the rest of the family so we don't know if he was already deceased around that time of emigration. There was a rumour in the family that there were priests in the family so maybe he had a calling to that. Maybe he just married & had kids. Hiwever Matthew Snr & Patrick (sond of James) must have died in ther area somewhere. Any help at all would be appreciated Paddy Walsh Sydney, Australia near Bondi where all the Walsh kids grew up
I have just got the death Certificate of my GG Grandfather Theophilus McCollum died 27/05/1877 in Glendavagh, parish Aghaloo,District Ballymagran Dungannon. Hello, I am attempting to find the date of death and burial location of my ggf Patrick Grealis who lived in the Louisburgh area of County Mayo. He was born around 1842 and died presumably after 1914. He married Mary Geraghty (daughter of Martin Geraghty) in Louisburgh Dec 4, 1869. They had five children: Thomas (died as an infant), Anne, a second Thomas, Mary (my gmother) and Bridget. The three women came to the US. I don't know anything about the second Thomas. On Bridget's arrival in the US in 1912, she listed her father Patrick as her nearest relative in Ireland. Any information that can be shared on any of the above individuals will be greatly appreciated. Bernie DeVarney
Hello List, My GGgrandfather JAMES WALSH from MUCKALEE,Kilkenny and his wife ANN CONRON emigrated to Sydney Australia c1862. Their son Matthew WALSH (my ggranfather) arrived in Sydney c1859 and sent for James & Ann, also his brothers, John & Martin, Mid 1860's. and sister Ann, They all died in Sydney. In the family bible that came with the family another son was mentioned=PATRICK WALSH b c1937 Kilkenny. We don't know why he did not emigrate, perhaps he was not living at that time. We were in contact with a priest who did a look up in Muckalee and said that records showed that the father of James Walsh was MATTHEW WALSH b. c1790 and that his wife appears to have been Caroline (?). In the family Myth/Legends there is a story that has some substance, having found it in part on the internet. My jaw dropped when I saw it, almost word for word as my WALSH Aunt (died at 90yrs in 2003) gave us as kids, as did all the other aunts & uncles give to their kids. The Story: Two brothers came from Wales into Ireland and were given land after the Cambro- Norman invasion. They had a disagreement and one went north (Dublin) and one went south (Kilkenny). Their origins appear to have come from NESTA in Wales. Now researching NESTA has proved like getting stuck in a revolving door. NESTA was a little bit loose in her friendships and it seems she was responsible for starting new family lines in several directions. It is said that the one that went to Kilkenny was named Philip. There was also an Anthony WALSH (from the Dublin branch?) who migrated to France and was a Ships captain. He is said to have sailed Bonnie Prince Charlie to Scotland. For Anthony's efforts he was given a castle/Chateau in France. (Not confirmed but the story was also found in some Irish History on the internet. Also mentioned in the stories was the problem one of the emigrated WALSHES had a great deal of trouble in that he refused to bend a knee to the monachy and had his name stripped from everything and he, together with thousands of others, became a non person and was eventually marched under guard to a ship heading for Australia where he was fed only. When arriving in Sydney he took back his name MATTHEW WALSH and within a few years owned a large part of Randwick in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney where he married and one of his children was Patrick WALSH who was my grandfather. The other brothers Martin & John also married and had many children, Matthews sister Ann disappeared without record a few years after arrival. Other things mentioned in the stories were Walshtown and Castle Hoel (var. spelling). The fate of Patrick may have been only that he became a priest but I was never able to confirm that. Waterford was mentioned in conjunction with Patrick & priesthood. So: I have Matthew b. 1790 m Caroline? his son James b. c1814 m Ann Conron his son Matthew b 1840 Kilkenny m Maria Graham b. 1849 Kilkenny 1867 in Waverley, Sydney NSW Aust his son Patrick b 1873 Randwick, Sydney NSW m Mary Ann McGinity b1880 in Wellington NZ, m 1899 Eandwick NSW These were my grandparents. his son Francis Walsh b 1904 Randwick NSW m Annie May Bardsley b 1903 Waverley NSW 1922 Waverley NSW his son Francis Carlyle Walsh b 1924 Bondi NSW m Betty Mackellar b 1923 Adelaide Sth Aust. 1944 Dulwich Hill, Sydney NSW Francis is my brother. his son James Walsh b 1958 Kensington Sydney NSW Would appreciate any info on Matthew Walsh b 1790. A grace stone inscription might tell a story In all my years of research this is the thickest brick wall I have had. Matthews brother Patrick b 1837 Kilkenny but did not emigrate to Australia is a chalenge as well. I have no info on him at all, he didn't even get himself into the family bible. Bits that would help: Death date of Matthew b c 1790 probably Kilkenny confirmation that his wife was Caroline. Marriage date. How many children did he have, James my ggrandfather was one. Death date of Patrick b 1837 Something I saw while going through some papers gave me the suspicion that James Walsh had married in Kilkenny prior to his marriage to Ann Conron and may have had children by the first wife. Any help on even a small piece of the above would be appreciated. Paddy Walsh

Is ther is list of burials at St. Ann's Military Cemetery in Cork?
Hi List, As a new subscriber I'm interested in finding out if any cemeteries in County Tyrone especially those near Strabane, have been transcribed or if any list members know of any publication of same. Regards TC
Great-great grandmother Latitia HILL married William MURPHY in 1829 and after giving birth to six children died in April 1846 . In Co. Antrim they probably lived in Islandboy and attended Presbyterian church in Armoy as their last child was baptized there.
