    1. [IRL~CEMS] Cemeteries in Clonakilty
    2. Beth Ann Manners
    3. I am looking for my BATEMAN, SHORTEN AND QUARRY ancestors, all of whom I understand were from Cork. My BATEMAN ancestors were from Woodfield, Clonakilty, though may have also been in Kilgarriff Parish. I believe they were Protestant though may have converted from Catholicism sometime prior to 1800. The SHORTENS were from Macroom. Though I have just found several Shortens bearing the correct names on Griffiths Valuation in Kinneagh Parish and do not know if it is near Macroom. The QUARRY's I know only were from Cork. I am interested in tracking down burial information and also wonder if the information from various cemeteries in the area might have been published. If not does anyone have suggestions as to how I might obtain information from the area cemeteries? Thanks and regards Beth Manners (in chilly northern Westchester Co., NY State)

    1. [IRL~CEMS] Mullingar Cemeteries for Lees
    2. Jan Robinson
    3. Hello: I am looking for any cemeteries in Mullingar that hold a headstone being marked Janet Carroll (my great-grandmother). Cannot find a death certificate for her in Britain (either Scotland or England) where she was born (Auchinleck, Ayr, Scotland 1866). My grandmother visited Mullingar to meet with her cousins, Michael and Christie Lees often before her death so I know she had family from Mullingar. Great Grandmother, Janet Carroll, had a baby out of wedlock in 1892 in Auchinleck (Isabella) and gave her up for adoption but Edinburgh Registries does not have anything or names as to who her mother or father were. Any help would be most appreciated.

    1. [IRL~CEMS] Unreadable Grave stone
    2. HI, My sister went to a cemetery in New Jersey and looked at a Gravestone from 1864. WE found out this relative was from Galmoy, Kilkenny, Ireland. We can read the names and the dates, but there are several lines below that are smaller and obviously worn. It is either written in English or possibly Gaelic. Does anyone have any idea how we could possibly trace this or any other way we may be able to read this. Thank You Kathleen Tynan

    3. A Black Irish man/woman from the point of view of a person living in Ireland had nothing to do with colour/eye colour. It was purely and simply a way of referring to someone who was a very strong protestant. Black eyes - dark brown eyes, sallow skin - that's a different thing................. 3. Hi Anne and everyone: I tried to link the site to here last nite in the normal fashion, but it did not seem to work. Just the typing came up with no underlining as it normally automatically will do.Others who are more technically inclined might explain why that happened. Try this: http://www.irishmigration.com/links/culture.asp Hope this may help someone. I did not find the 1769 shipwreck I was looking for.........but lots of other interesting things in searching the Belfast news database, and lots of other sites to explore too, at least new to me. Hope you enjoy, judi g Anne Gillen wrote: > Just went back to the original message of Pat Callanan and got the > proper link. Forgive my ignorance. Sorry for my confusion. 3. On Wednesday, Richard Callanan sent along the interesting and informative link regarding the "Myth of theBlack Irish". >From that website I found the following: Links | History and Culture | Irish Migration Resource Center, It also has lots of other places to explore. For instance: the searchable database index for the Belfast Newsletter, which is the oldest continuously published English language newspaper, begun in 1737. All of the surviving newspapers have been indexed completely from 1737 to 1800, I would say a mamoth undertaking! I will spend some time on this site. Thank you Richard, for bringing this imformation to all of us listers. Regards, Judi Graham

    3. If anyone should have information about burial places for people with the surname ACTESON I would love to hear. They lived in Kilkenny in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in Cork into the nineteenth and in Waterford in eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Others lived in Wexford, at Carne , Duncormuck and Bannow areas. Many thanks, Susan Patterson
