My Aunt Annie Sheridan died in Belfast on July 22, 1904 and is reputed to be buried somewhere in or near Belfast. She was 17 years old and was working as an apprentice to her Aunt Judith, who was either a dressmaker or milliner. I would like to find out where Annie is buried and perhaps more about the circumstances surrounding her death. What is the best way to proceed in this endeavor? Is there anyone out there who might do a lookup at the Public Records for me? I would be hapy to return the favour. Best regards, Fran Miller

I have been searching for several years now for De Moul. This was my father's name and he was born in Ireland 1904/05 - I think in the Dublin area but I am not certain. In all my searching I have not even come across this name. Maybe someone during their research has come across this name. I would appreciate hearing if this is so. Pat W.

There are a number of graveyards in Belfast, the oldest being Friars Bush. Two of the largest ones are The City Cemetery and Milltown Cemetery. Another old one is Clifton Street Graveyard which operated pre 1780 to approx 1950. Carnmoney graveyard is on the outskirts of the city.. I suppose you may be able to get the address of the administration for each and all others through the internet or you could write to the Public Records Office City Hall Belfast for guidance in the matter. Note : Milltown is exclusively Catholic, while City Cemetery is mostly non catholic but does contain a number of catholic graves. Friars Bush is very old , dating from the mid 17th century, Clifton Street is no longer in operation but is open for historical tours as a number of famous local people are buried there. Are these two cemeteries still open? My Muldoon Ancestors apparently have a large stake in the one at Charlesville. Does anyone have any transcription of the Muldoon family. Regards Eve

Hugh and Mary Close McShane are buried in the Lisbane Cemetery, he since 1891=20 and she only after 1901 where she was found living in the same house in=20 Ballyobegan at age 70 in 1901 with her youngest daughter Catherine McShane=20 Dorrian and three children: Hugh b. 1895; Mary b. 1897 and Maggie b. 1900.=A0=20 Therefore her death occurred after 1901.=A0=20 The McShane's appear to have scatterred like ripen wheat in a strong wind! I am very inquisitive what this is can you let me know as well Sandra Stewart
For those who have requested the explanation of vallum of a rath. I found it very interesting. Jeanne (Maine USA) Dear Jeanne A rath was a homestead usually of someone of importance within the community. The vallum was the raised earthwork platform on which the rath once stood. It is generally all that's left and is often wrongly called a rath. If there's indication of a graveyard then either the rath falls inside a later graveyard or the vallum itself has been later used as a graveyard. There is a vallum less than quarter of a mile from my home which is known locally as the "Fairy Rath". This one is a raised level earthwork platform between about three to five feet in height feet in height owing to the slope of the land it stands on with a steep dry stone wall built up all around acting as a retaining wall for the platform. It is almost circular and covers about a half to two thirds of an acre but of course they vary in size. It is placed in an incredibly strategic position which one can only appreciate by being there. You can see for miles in all directions. According to superstition these are the places where the unwary are supposed to be kidnapped by fairies and not released until their family and friends are either dead or very old. The person kidnapped on the other hand hasn't aged a day. Mary Newsome (Co.Wexford)
