    1. Re: [IRL-CEMETERIES] Cemetery lookups
    2. Judith Mellifont
    3. Dear Donna, Found the following for James McNIGHT. While they are not the ones you are looking for they may be related earlier in the piece. I have included an interesting obit for the Rev Lucas Waring, Rector of the coimbined parishes of Kilkeel and Kilcoo, so the parishes must be very close. Description of the cemetery precedes the inscription. The first one is an obit published in Liv. Auth (whatever that means - it is not mentioned in the abbreviations list). Kind regards Judith Mellifont. Brisbane, Australia Obituary Prior to 1800 (as far as Relates to England, Scotland, and Ireland), Compiled by Sir William Musgrave, 6th Bart., of Hayton Castle, Co. Cumberland, and Entitled by him "A General Nomenclator and Obituary, with Referrence to the Books Where the Persons are Mentioned, and Where some Account of their Character is to be Found." McKnight, James (Rev.), Theol. 1787. (Liv. Auth.) Down: Mourne - Gravestone Inscriptions, Barony of Mourne Kilkeel Old Graveyard O. S. 56 Grid Ref. 307146 This is the old parish graveyard in the townland of the same name. It is situated to the west of Newcastle Street and north of Bridge Street at a double bend in the centre of the town. The church was dedicated to St. Colman and was a celtic foundation situated in an old rath. The ditch of the rath can still be traced to the north and west of the church but within the graveyard. The church was destroyed in 1649 wars but was subsequently restored. The narrow windows at the east end of the N. and S. walls are probably of the 15th or 16th century but the other windows which have brick surrounds date from the rebuilding. The building was abandoned when the new parish church was opened in 1818. The registers of baptism, marriage and burial date from 1816. The graveyard is entered from a gate on Bridge Street and a sunken passage leads from this to the church. The graves surround the church on all sides and the whole is ( 1970 ) a complete wilderness of grass, weeds and rubbish. However it contains several distinctive monuments:-1. A weathered equal-armed granite cross 3 feet high, beside which is a granite socket stone. 2. A mort-cage enclosure (Moore family) with iron bars covering the whole, to prevent the coffin being removed after burial. 3. Coffin-shaped slabs with flat or convex surfaces, most of which have no inscription and are lying down as grave markers. Many of the gravestones are of rough granite and are difficult or impossible to read. There are also a number of thick raised horizontal slabs of slate which have well-preserved inscriptions. All the inscriptions which could be read have been copied. McKnight Here lyeth the body of James McKnight who departed this life 18 Nov 1758 aged 63 years. Waring /Box-tomb in a densely overgrown high-railed enclosure/. Underneath this stone are deposited the remains of the Reverend Lucas Waring, resident Rector of the United parishes of Kilkeel, Kilcoo and Kilmegan for thirty-seven years, who departed this life on 09 Jul 1823 aged sixty-six years. Also the remains of Eleanor his wife who departed this life on 12 Nov 1813 aged fifty-two years. Down: Upper & Lower Castlereagh - Gravestone Inscriptions, Baronies of Upper and Lower Castlereagh d Blaris Graveyard O. S. 14. Grid Ref. 250627 This graveyard is in the townland of Blaris and parish of Blaris (also known as the parish of Lisburn). The site is reputed to have had a church in mediaeval times but only a mound covered with graves exists now. The oldest stone, which has no other legible wording, dates from 1626 and all have been copied with dates of death before 1864. Presumably only some of these burials appear in the Lisburn Parish Register. All the Lisburn Cathedral registers survive from 1661 , Roman Catholic registers from 1840 and Presbyterian baptismal and marriage registers from 1860. Memorials of the Dead (M. D.), Vol. 10, contains a copy of 30 of the headstones, of which 10 have disappeared or are completely . All are included below and those now lost are noted. In 1918 the graveyard was in very wild condition but it is now well kept. Some of the participants in the 1798 rising were executed outside the graveyard and are interred in an unmarked plot just inside the entrance, on the right. McKnight Erected in memory of James McKnight, Trooperfield, died 16 Jan 1853 aged 84 years. His wife Sarah died 13 Oct 1878 aged 81 years. Their son John died 29 Apr 1883. Also their daughter Mary Jane Gray died 06 Aug 1867. Sarah McLorn, daughter, died 13 Oct 1883. Hugh Keys, son-in-law, died 11 Jan 1892. Alice McKnight, daughter, died 26 Jul 1895. William McKnight died 28 Feb 1905. 1. Re: [IRL-CEMETERIES] Movilla Cemetery
    2. Beryl Gebbie (BT)
    3. Hi Jenny, I did not find what you were looking for sorry. Althought saying that I did find one McMillan in there, and as all the people in there came from Newtownards they could be relatives so I will give you those. Also have you noticed that the name McMillan could also be McMillin/McMillian not to mention McMullun. My family name I have found to be spelt three different ways within the family, nice and confusing. The other thing to do is email the Public Records Office in Belfast and ask them where the Movilla Burial Records are, then you could ask them to look at the records for you, because I know they are not at the cemetery as I have been there doing research. There is no office only gardeners and they are quite helpful as they have worked there for years and remember where some graves are, but that is not much help to you. So here is the email address for the PRO in Belfast proni@dcalni.gov.uk they also have a web site http://proni.nics.gov.uk Also another useful site for you is the Belfast Central Library their email site is info@libraries.belfast-elb.gov.uk and their web site is www.belb.org.uk The Public Records Office I gave you above is where you get BMDs from, ask them to send you some forms so when your ready you can just send them off. If you want to know of more places or you get stuck just ask me and if I can help I will. If you do manage to find the dates and graves with the grave number and section I will take a picture for you as I am going over to Ireland in June. The following is what I have found: MOVILLA CEMETERY Erected by David McMillan, senior of Newtownards in memory of his daughter Agnes McMillan who departed this life the 1st July 1843 aged 17 yrs. Also four of his children that died in youth. Also his wife Sarah McMillan who departed this life 16th January 1865 aged 69 yrs. Also the above named David McMillan who departed this life 3rd. May 1879 aged 81 yrs. McCLUNE Erected by Elizabeth McMillan, Whitespots, in memory of her beloved sister Agnes McClune who died 9th April 1860 aged 64 yrs. Also her beloved brother John McClune who died 4th Nov. 1873 aged 68 yrs. McCULLOUGH (Modern black marble stone in a railed enclosure with other stone set in the floor.) Erected by John McCullough, Ballyrainey, in memory of his father, John McCullough who died 6th August 1849 aged 42 yrs. Also his mother Jane Moore who died 4th Sept. 1871 aged 54 yrs. Also his infact brother John who died 20 Jan. 1848. Also his aunt Alice McCullough who died 2nd. Oct. 1871 aged 66 yrs. Also his son John McCullough who died 12th Nov. 1880 aged 6 mths. Also his wife Jane McMILLAN who died 9th April 1909 aged 63 yrs. Also his grandson John McCullough who died 4th Nov. 1928. Also the above named John McCullough who died 19th Feb. 1939. Me not finding them in the book does not mean they are not there. The blerb on the front says the graves are before 1800 to 1864, well as you can see that is not correct. You can buy these books from the Ulster Historical Society, but I believe they are redoing them, bring them up to date. When I find out I will let you know. But before you buy any make sure the name you want is in there. Hope this is helpful Beryl ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jennifer Jackson" <jenni.j@bigpond.com> To: <IRELAND-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2004 3:31 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-CEMETERIES] Movilla Cemetery > Hi Beryl from Sussex > > I would be so grateful if you could do this for me. > > The book that you mention, is it a library book or can you purchase it from > somewhere? > > > I'm trying to locate the graves of my great grandparents and some of their > family I have been told that they are buried in the Movilla Cemetery. > > Their names are: > John & Martha McMillan > Alexander & Margaret Jamison (nee McMillan) daughter of John & Martha > James McMillan son of John & Martha (only a few months old) and another > James McMillan (also a son of John & Martha) (18 years old) > Harry McMillan (son of John & Martha) > There could be others but I know these ones are there. > > Once I have their dates of death it will give me something to work back > from. > Unfortunately I have no dates to work from however my grandfather was born > in 1896 so it would have to have been after this time at least for my > grandparents, not sure about his brothers' James x 2. > > Many thanks Beryl for your offer of help. > > > > > > Kind regards > > > > > Jenny > > > > > Brisbane > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Beryl Gebbie (BT)" <b.gebbie@btinternet.com> > To: <IRELAND-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, March 27, 2004 10:00 AM > Subject: Re: [IRL-CEMETERIES] Movilla Cemetery > > > > Hi Jenny, I am another Beryl from Sussex this time. 3. Hi Beryl from Sussex I would be so grateful if you could do this for me. The book that you mention, is it a library book or can you purchase it from somewhere? I'm trying to locate the graves of my great grandparents and some of their family I have been told that they are buried in the Movilla Cemetery. Their names are: John & Martha McMillan Alexander & Margaret Jamison (nee McMillan) daughter of John & Martha James McMillan son of John & Martha (only a few months old) and another James McMillan (also a son of John & Martha) (18 years old) Harry McMillan (son of John & Martha) There could be others but I know these ones are there. Once I have their dates of death it will give me something to work back from. Unfortunately I have no dates to work from however my grandfather was born in 1896 so it would have to have been after this time at least for my grandparents, not sure about his brothers' James x 2. 1. [IRL-CEMETERIES] Aghagallon RC Cemetary query?
    2. Ted Jones
    3. Dear List, I am researching the RADDIE family of County Antrim. I came across the gravestone transcription site (http://irishgenealogy.ie/) where I found entries for 3 of the family EDWARD PATRICK RADDIE, his wife JOSEPHINE MARY RADDIE and EDWARD JOSEPH RADDIE who I believe is one of their children. They are buried in Aghagallon RC cemetary in Antrim and I am hoping someone can provide me with the address of the cemetary or at least an email address for inquires where I can find information as to who owns the plot which may lead me to more family members. Thanks, Ted Jones tjones@magma.ca Ottawa, Canada

    3. Hi Beryl I'm trying to locate the graves of my great grandparents and some of their family I have been told that they are buried in the Movilla Cemetery. Many thanks Beryl for any help you can offer. Kind regards Jenny Brisbane > Hi Jennifer, what did you want. > Beryl

Their sons Martin who was born 1 Jan 1857 and another brother Patrick and sister Mary all came to NZ and settled in the Hawke's Bay region.Nothing else is known about them except stated on the Marriage Certificate of Martin that his father was a farmer from Clare. There most probably are other members of the family and would realy love to make contact. Elaine Hastings The Fruitbowl and Wine Country of New Zealand.
