The Protestant community used a wider range of names than the Catholic a century ago for both sons and daughters and children were often named after their grandparents, although there was a trend for first sons to be named William in the Protestant community. There were three Eileens during this period, all born to Protestant families. Note was also made of two pairs of sisters in Tyrone with what was felt to be "similar" names: Maria Isabella MONTGOMERYand May Eliza MONTGOMERY and Lily Maud IRWIN and Elizabeth IRWIN.. During this time period there was not a single Patrick, Michael, Bridget or Rose born in the Protestant community and the reverse held for names like Robert, George, Samuel, Emily and Jennifer, which were entirely absent in the Catholic community. William and Sarah were also predominantly Protestant names
