SNIPPET: Lowlands of Co. Carlow -- Carlow is a small county but with a wealth of architecture, antiquities, gardens, people, mountains, rivers and canals. It lies between two rivers (Barrow and Slaney). Ballykeenan was once a famous working farm employing some 20 men. The old stone-built farm buildings and some new structures are inhabited by race horses, ponies, deer, goats, sheep, pigs, dogs, hamsters, chipmunks, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, a friendly corn snake, exotic ducks and innumerable other birds and animals. For a small admission, a fully guided and entertaining tour of this wonderland is provided by owner Mr. Robert McCORD, who will charm you with accounts not only of the animals and their mannerisms but of his many visitors and how they related to his pets. Located off the Carlow to Rosslare Road (N80) between Ballon and Myshall. See Internet for more information. From Ballykeenan, the road goes to the charming village of Myshall.that is dominated by its 20th century church, consecrated in 1913. It looks a great deal older and is a miniature replica of Salisbury Cathedral in England. Just to drive along its avenue, lined by yew trees and, like the rest of the grounds, impeccably kept, is an experience. Even by the standards of well-kept churchyards, it has a special air of tranquility. The key to the church is kept in the house across the road and admits to a lavish display of art and architectural detail. Adelaide church was the concept of its neighbour John DUGUID, built as a memorial to his daughter who died tragically shortly before her wedding day.
