    3. Hi List, Other than the British National Archives, is there any other place that the names and records of the men serving in Irish Regiments can be found? It would appear that there may have been a split between 'War Office' and 'Irish Command. records at some time in the past or that some of the records may have been destroyed during the 1940's London blitz. 3. I'd be interested in any replies to this question. On my Granny's second marriage cert (Belfast 1923) her father George SLEATER is described as "Army Pensioner" - that's the only indication I have that he served in the army, other records only have him as a labourer. I spent most of a fruitless day at The National Archives at Kew (London) to find absolutely zilch about him. I concluded that anything about his army career must have gone up in smoke in 1922. > > Hi List, > Other than the British National Archives, is there any other > place that the names and records of the men serving in Irish Regiments > can be found? > It would appear that there may have been a split between 'War > Office' and 'Irish Command. records at some time in the past or that > some of the records may have been destroyed during the 1940's London > blitz. 3. Hi Don -- What is the name of the person you are looking for and time frame. He was Irish serving in Ireland or England? Can you give more information and put his surnames in caps on the subject line? Jean. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donald Dalmeny" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 11:43 AM Subject: [IRELAND] Irish Soldiers > > Hi List, > Other than the British National Archives, is there any other place > that the names and records of the men serving in Irish Regiments can be > found? > It would appear that there may have been a split between 'War > Office' and 'Irish Command. records at some time in the past or that some > of the records may have been destroyed during the 1940's London blitz. > > Don Dalmeny

    3. Hi Jean, Many thanks for your email. The person that I am looking for is Angus Dalmeny. He may have been Scottish, Irish or English or even French or Dutch, but no record of him can be found. He may have served as a Veterinary Surgeon at the British army Veterinary Hospital based in Waterford or in any British or Irish army unit in the period 1880 to 1920. He was married to a Margaret Fordham and is believed to have had two sons John and Donald and two daughters Margaret and Constance. No record can be found for any of his family. That is about all I know. Hope it is sufficient for what ever you have in mind. Sincerely.....Don Dalmeny > From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Sat, 29 Sep 2007 03:38:00 -0700> Subject: Re: [IRELAND] Irish Soldiers> > Hi Don -- What is the name of the person you are looking for and time frame. > He was Irish serving in Ireland or England? 3. Hi Donald, I put Dalmeny in Surname and 1850 in year of birth, all countries, on ancestry and came up with a bunch. Albert Edward (Lord) Dalmeny married in England 1909. a Scottish census for 1851 Lord Dalmeny living in Midlothian, and a lot of phone directories for Eng. I didn't look at all. Good luck.
