SNIPPET: Michael CUMISKEY, Mohill, Co. Leitrim, served as a telegram boyand postman for 50 years in the Mohill, Cloone, Aughavas and Carrick-on-Shannon areas. At a function circa 1995 to mark his retirement many tributes were paid to Michael for his long and loyal service. Michael's father Charlie CUMISKEY served as a postman for 43 years and grandfather Patrick also served as postman for 10 years. In all, the CUMISKEY family, for three generations, has give 103 years unbroken dedicated service. A wonderful photo of Charlie and Michael holding an old photo of "Grandpa Patrick" can be found in the 1996 issue of the yearly "Leitrim Guardian." My note - The Leitrim-Roscommon website has much to offer researchers and material from other counties is being added. Doing some "detective work" from the 1901 Leitrim Census at that website, I believe I MAY have found the CUMISKEY family in the story above - i.e., on the 1901 Leitrim Census a Patrick CUMISKEY family's address was Mohill Town/Green Rd. Head of the household was Patrick (49), a postman born in Co. Cavan. Others at that address were Bridget (48), Patrick Joe (21) postman, Charles (17) postman, Helena (16), John (14), Philip (13) telegraph messenger and Lizzie (11).
