Civil birth certificates for both Catholic and Protestant did not begin until 1864. Previous to this you would have to rely on sacramental records of Baptism which the individual churches might have. You would have to know the religion his family practiced at the time. This could be Church of Ireland, Presbyterian, Anglican, etc. Then locate the church nearest to Naran of that sect. If they do not have records for that timeline, you could ask where the records might have been preserved. You might join the Roots Donegal list. Someone there might be able to assist you.
