Guy Reed Ramsey in his book "Postmarked Iowa" published in 1976 lists Olean as a post office located 5 miles northwest of Packwood, or about 3 miles southwest of Ollie (on line between Sec. 28 and 33, Jackson Twp). Post office was established January 16, 1854 and was renamed Ioka August 12, 1858.
