I checked some census records for you, and here is what I find: 1900 census, Winnebago County, Iowa, Forest, District 194. Philip Howrey, b. May 1856, age 46, b. IA, father b. IN, mother b. KY, farmer Emma Howrey, b. Feb 1864, age 36, wife, married 19 years, gave birth to 7 children, 7 survive Billie (?) Howrey, daughter, b. Jul 1884, age 15, b. IA Charles Howrey, b. Apr 1886, age 14, b. IA Carrie Howrey, b. Mar 1889, age 11, b. IA (your ancestor) Thorut (?) Howrey, son, b. Jan 1891, age 9, b. IA Kate Howrey, daughter, b. Aug 1894, age 6, b. IA Maud Howrey, daughter, b. May 1898, age 2, b. IA By 1910, the family is in Custer Co., South Dakota, District 12, and living next door is James M. REYNOLDS: Dwelling 435. James M. Reynolds, age 34, single, b. IA, father b. Ireland, mother b. Vermont, shop owner. Dwelling 437. Philip D. Howery, age 55, b. IA Emma F. Howery, age 46, b. IA, gave birth to 8 children, 8 survive Catherine L. Howery, age 16, b. IA, single Maude I. Howery, age 12, b. IA, single Esther F. Howery, age 8, single, b. IA In 1910, Carrie (Howrey) Hamilton is living alone in Aberdeen, SD as follows: Carrie Hamilton, head, age 21, widow, gave birth to 2 children, 2 survive, b. Iowa, parents both born Iowa, dressmaker (Her children are not listed with her, and it states that she is a widow. ) Apparently when she went home to Custer Co. to visit her parents, she met Mr. James Reynolds and they married. By the 1920 census, James and Carrie are living in Oregon, with children Harold and Ralph Reynolds. If Carrie had two children by Mr. Hamilton, I don't find them. I also don't find a marriage in either South Dakota or in Iowa for a Carrie Howery or Edith Howery or Howrey. I also don't see any affiliation with the railroad. Mr. Philip Howrey appears to have been a farmer. Also, in the 1910 census for Custer Co., South Dakota, is Charles Howrey (notice spelling), who is apparently the son of Philip and Emma: #422 Charles F. Howrey, age 22, single, b. IA, father b. IN, mother b. IA, farmer I hope this helps you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SouthernBelRoots@aol.com> To: <IOWA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 12:46 PM Subject: [IOWA] Custer County and Iowa Lookup > Hello > I am looking for any info pertaining to Cary Howery Hamilton,James Reynolds, > any Hamilton especially a Charles Hamilton. > I am looking for the first husband of my gr grandmother Cary Edith Howery > Hamilton who would later become Cary Reynolds. > They may have been affiliated with the railroad. > They may have been in Custer County, SD ,a surrounding town or in IOWA.
