The information sent is the correct line but from what I need is information on Albert Henry Thurmonds daughter Bessie Alberta Thurmond. Bessie was born 9/5/1911 in Blairsburg, Iowa and died 5/21/1979 in Dows, Iowa. I was born in the Willows Maternity Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. 7/2/1928. I have been told that all the Willows hospital records were burned after the hospital was closed. I was adopted from the Willows Hospital to a family in Missouri. Once I found out that my origional name was Thurmond, it was then I changed my adopted name back to my origional name of Thurmond. I have had the name Joseph Schachtlie in my family search as half brother of Albert Henry Thurmond. Thanks. John T.
Mr. Thurmond, Your adoption search is intriguing to me. I have been searching for my Mom's birth family since her death nearly five years ago. My search effort has been persistent and quite successful overall. Mom was born in 1924. She had her original adoption papers that the adoptive parents kept all these years. Those papers gave just enough information for me to get the search started. Do you have such adoption papers? From what you have told us, you do have some information, which is good. I did a search of the census records that are available. Federal Census 1920 Hamilton County, Iowa Liberty Township Albert Thurmond, head of household (his wife's name appears to be Jane...or at least a word that ends in ane/s) Children listed are: Ada, Nellie, Bessie (this must be your mother) age 8 in 1920, Ethel, Leatha, Raymond, Loyd (but not sure of that spelling), Clifford.... In this same household....showing as a brother (to the head) is: Joe Schachtle I also find this same family..... Federal Census 1930 Hamilton County Williams Township A.H. Thurmond, head of household Wife's name is clearly spelled out as Eva A. (according to her age it appears to be the same woman he was married to ten years earlier in the 1920 census) Children: Ethel, Leatha, Raymond, Loyd, Clifford, Henry, Emett, Vrelle (the daughter Bessie is clearly missing in 1930) This is a start...I realize that you might have this information. Contact me off list. I will gladly help in any other ways that I can. I have other ideas that could be pursued.
