    1. Mail order brides-Denmark, early 1900 era

    3. Great Uncle Delbert was born out of wedlock and much much younger than his half brothers and sisters. He was born almost deaf, and did not have schooling. He worked on the railroad, which probably increased his deafness. His Mother was put out by the family and except for my Grandfather had little attention and even his was not much until later years. At age 35 twas said he ORDERED HIM A MAIL ORDER BRIDE FROM DENMARK.---1905. Family story was that she came to US with no English language. She came to Iowa on a train and with language problem she was set off the train at New Hampton, Iowa. There she remained for a week only saying "Debbie", and Delbert was meeting the train each day at Hampton, Iowa. From cencus records it appears she was born 1869 in Denmark of Danish parents, and grandparents. Only name I have found is Regina J. Christiansen. Delbert's parents were from England and Ireland. As a small child I remember my parents leaving off garden produce at their! small "shack" and not being asked into the house, only once when Delbert was on his deathbed do I remember I or my parents being in their home. Deanee as we called her still not saying any words English but "Debbie" WERE THERE ANY FOREIGN BRIDE TRAINS IN THE EARLY 1900 ERA, ESPECIALLY FROM DENMARK. They never had any children, and no one then or now seemed interested in her story???
